Don't know if any mention has been made of this, but a friend of mine has been cast in Company, with the same director as the current Sweeney Todd, and it will open in Cincinnati (I believe) early next year. If its a success, there's the usual talk of it coming to Broadway. The cast plays all the instruments in the manner of Sweeney Todd's current incarnation. I love the show itself, and hope this turns out to be wonderful - partially for my friend who deserves a break on Broadway - and partially because I always love well-written Sondheim shows. Keep your fingers crossed, folks.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

Congrats to your friend!

Raúl Esparza is playing Bobby, and it's running in Cincinatti from March 14 to April 14.

Broadway.com's press release on Raúl:
http://www.broadway.com/Gen/Buzz_Story.aspx?ci=521209

They're obviously still working out the details of the concept. The cast will play instruments, like in Sweeney, but Bobby might not be included in the intstrument-playing.

I'm so excited; I hope I can go out and see it.

I surely won't get to cinci - but if it makes it to B'way with my friend intact in her role, I'll definitely see it (though I'm not an Esparza fan, though I do love Barbara Walsh, who is playing Joanne)

I hope that this isn't going to be just a rehashing of Sweeney Todd. Not that Sweeney Todd isn't wonderful (I haven't seen it, but can only imagine how wonderful it may be), but I wouldn't like for Doyle to get stuck in a rut and become a one-trick musical monkey.

What's Joanne going to play? An empty bottle of vodka?

Hey, vodka, whisky...I'm sure Joanne will find as many bottles as possible. Does anyone else believe La Stritch should reprise the role of Joanne?...Just kidding!
Anyways, I doubt John Doyle will use the same concept he used in Sweeney, he'll probably find another ingenous way to make the actors play the instruments. I guess some of the Michael Bennett choreography will be sacrificed though. Wonder which actresses are playing Kathy and Amy.

Oh the things I would do to be cast in this show.... Or any of John Doyle's shows for that matter!

I look forward to seeing what all the Esparza hype is about if this comes to Broadway. But it's really looking like I'll never get the Company I wanted now.

Is the buzz that high about this version coming to Broadway? I would love to see any COMPANY, but since it has only been 10 years since the last revival would this really transfer?

I somehow doubt we would be competing for the same part. re: Any word on Doyle's Company?

I can't imagine itd be the same as Sweeny. Although I wonder if he'll take a stylized approach to this Sondheim show as well? Its a show that lends itself well to stylization because of its non-linear book. How is it that Cinn. snatched up such a great show? Would this show be full-scale Broadway already, or would it be a more scaled down regional theater version? Just wondering. And i'm not sure if there's hype about this production, but considering it doesnt open until April, I wouldn't think it really would.

I am so tempted to go to Cincinnati and see this. I don't know how likely that is, though, so I really hope it comes to Broadway.

I might! Honestly, that scares me less than a plane does. I absolutely HATE flying. Thankfully the flight from NYC to Cincinnati isn't very long.

But we just had a Company revival ONLY 10 years ago.

Sunday In The Park With George, is a Sondheim show that deserves a revival before this.

I am curious how this will turn out though.

I didn't get to see it though, and I remain fascinated by the actor/musician concept, and that revival does not seem to have been very good. All that together means I could get behind this one. Although my gut feeling is this will not transfer.

A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC and SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE are the two that desperately need revivals.
Please actually bring them to Broadway (I am really tired of the "rumors" of ALNM, it seems that production is doomed, let someone else do it. Maybe the current British SITPWG could transfer, it looks like SWEENEY is going to pay off, BRING IT!
