Anyone Can Whistle in 3 Acts?

Posted: 4/6/10 at 12:40pmJust wondering if they're planning to do it in three acts as it was done originally.
#2Anyone Can Whistle in 3 Acts?
Posted: 4/6/10 at 12:49pmI doubt it. MTI licenses the show in 2 acts.

Posted: 4/6/10 at 12:56pm^ They have done revisions before. They changed the middle section of "Applause" to reflect the Encores! series. Changing it back to 3 Acts really won't be a drastic change. If Laurents and Sondheim approve it, there's not a damn thing MTI can do about it.

But I believe the two act version has a slightly different song order.
I highly doubt it will be in 3 acts.

I, too, would like to see it performed as originally written. Isn't that (sort of) the mission of Encores? (Not that they really seem to have any kind of mission anymore...)
I mean, the David Ives book re-writes are shorter than the original books, but not really better. So why change a 3-act show to 2 acts? Just to get your tired old audience home sooner?

Posted: 4/6/10 at 8:12pmWasn't No No Nanette done in 3 acts at Encores a few years back? I kind of remember that. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Posted: 4/7/10 at 7:29pmJust got a text from Withoutatrace, who's at the dress tonight, that the show is being presented in 2 acts, according to the Playbill. The song "Simple" ends act 1, and it appears (based on the song list) that act 2 is longer.

^ UGH. Seriously? How disappointing.
If they are still going to end act 1 with Simple, then they should have just done it in 3 acts. Act two is going to be extremely long. I like the licensed two act song order better than what they are doing here.
I just suddenly lost some excitement about seeing this. "There's Always a Woman" is such a GREAT song. But no wonder they aren't adding it, considering act 2 is going to be so long now.

#16Anyone Can Whistle in 3 Acts?
Posted: 4/7/10 at 9:20pm^ Nope. But I assume they could have easily added it as the Carnegie Hall and Ravinia concerts did.

Posted: 4/7/10 at 9:22pmThose 2 concerts were on book, correct? Perhaps Murphy and Foster didn't want another number in an already stacked song list for both.

Posted: 4/7/10 at 9:46pmIt's an awful, misogynistic song. Also, it makes no sense for Fay. Cora, sure, but Fay, no.
