I would love to hear Audra McDonald as Dot. I'm surprised no recording of her doing it has ever surfaced.

I saw this botyh at the Chocolate Factory and now the Wyndham's. I think Jenna Russell is on fine form; her characterization is more sparky and intelligent than Casey's, but perhaps not as indulgent as Casey had been. They were/are both fine interpretations.
As for the recording it's quite splendid and I do prefer it to the OBC which was fairly dull with the tempi rushed in comparison.
I had the supremem pleasure of performing in the National tour of Sunday..., and it was the definitive point in my career. There was never a performance wherein I didn't become completely engrossed in the material, and taken to places I didn't know I could live in. To me, it is simply one of the finest shows ever written, and I am thrilled that it will be coming back to Broadway in the near future. It is one of those shows that I believe everyone should see at least once in their life.

I plan on trying to see it when I go to London this coming week (convincing my parents to let me see it, though they have no interest). I'm just wondering how much the CD is priced at there?
I love the new recording! I just really like that the feel of it is more natural and conversational, which ups the emotional ante. Lesson #8 and Move On in particular are devastating.

Is this recording using the full orchestrations or are they cut back? I don't think I'd like a "tiny" Sunday. I couldn't get into the new Sweeney for that very reason (from CD only/haven't seen it).

The recording employs 8 musicians.
I don't know if anybody has mentioned this, but Tower Records at Lincoln Center and the one on Broadway in the East Village has been selling it for the last two weeks.
The orchestrations are very scaled back - but they sound wonderful - its mostly reeds and woodwins.

The OBC is in deep need of remastering. So much of the lyrics cannot be heard unless you turn up the volume. This new recording makes you feel like you are right there.
The OBC has been remastered - it just hasn't been released yet.

A bit off topic, does anyone know if student rush, general rush, or discounts of any sorts are availible for the show? (Also, does London have a TKTS equivalent?)
I don't think there is... will be watching it next wk but havent bought tkts yet and its 1/2 term, so may God bless that there are still tkts left! I'd die to see this show!!!!!!!

"Bernadette Peters has one of the greatest voices in musical theatre history. Period."
---> Sure she has a great voice, that's obvious, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. It just has a weird tone to it, that I just don't like to listen to.
"I can't imagine hating 70 plus percent of musicals like you."
---> Did I say I hated the show? I love the new London Recording, I just didn't like the OBC. Nothing against the show.
Jeez, cool your jets. Take a breather. Breathe in. Breathe out.
No but the list of well respected shows that you hate grows daily.

Patronus, as usual, make some very good points and I'm not at all disagreeing with him. I just have to laugh at the posters who claim to appreciate "significant" musicals such as WICKED and THE WEDDING SINGER. Give me MAKE A WISH or RUMPLE any time
I love MAKE A WISH! Nanette Fabray is so awesome.
As I have previously stated, Rentboy is a joke.
omg JackiesBroJoe, that guy in your avatar is SO HOT!
If he's a joke, then why am I not laughing?
Every time I read one of his posts I either roll my eyes or laugh.

I don't mind you guys disagreeing with me, but at least get it right. I've never send that Wedding Singer was significant. It didn't change the course of musical theater, it never will. I did, however, say I had a great time and would recommend it to everyone.
Not once, did I say I hated Sunday in the Park with George, I just said I didn't care for the OBC.
I have a wide variety of tastes. I listen to Sweeney Todd to Urinetown to Do I Hear A Waltz? to Fiddler on the Roof to Company to Wicked. It's not that big of a deal.
It's just a message board.

Anyway, back to the point.
I've been listening to the new recording for 2 weeks now. Having seen the show, too, I can safely say that it works as a fantastic companion to the OBC. Whilst it does not have the majestic horns and lush string section, the new orchestrations are really bright, and the end of Act One is exultant!
I'm beginning to think this may be may favourite show.
Once again, how could anyone have accused the show of lacking melody?

I have, for a long time, stated that this is my favorite score in musical theater. This recording only reinstates that feeling for me. It is so much more devestatingly beautiful than the OBCR.
While I am one of those people that truly, 100% adore "The Wedding Singer", you guys are being a little rough in thinking that those of us that enjoyed it or shows of that nature have little to no/poor taste in theater.
While I enjoy "goofy" musicals and enjoy having a good time, I still consider "Bernarda Alba" and "The Light in the Piazza" to be two of the most stunning creations of theater I've ever seen.
