I've stayed at the Gallivant twice and it's quite nice. The rooms are small, as you might expect, but comfortable, clean, and modern-looking. Obviously the location is great.

I stayed at the Gallivant during a summer trip once. It was fine. The AC was broken in the lobby, which was sweltering, but the rooms were fine even then, and presumably the lobby has been repaired since. The windows of my room faced out into an area where employees go for smoke breaks and it is a very cramped space, so I had to keep the blinds closed all the time for any privacy at all (otherwise a person would be right outside my window from time to time and could see in, which was startling when it happened on the first day). I also didn't love not having carpet, but all in all, it was fine and i would be willing to stay there again. I don't choose hotels for the view in the room, just as a place to sleep and bathe between/before/after shows. Any questions in particular?

I have stayed twice at the Gallivant and have had absolutely zero complaints! The location is PERFECT for going to see shows. Yes, the rooms are small, but they are clean and feel very modern. The price was unbeatable both times I've stayed there. The first time (February 2017) I paid 83.00 a night through Priceline. The second time (February 2018) I got a discount return rate for 73.00 a night. To me, that price is just incredible for the location of the hotel.
They also accommodated my early check-in both times with no issues. I highly recommend it. It is not a 5 star hotel, but if you want something in the heart of the theatre district that feels modern and is clean ... book it!

I stayed at the Gallivant this summer and it was fine. It had all of my requirements below. All I ask for my hotel rooms is that they are the following: (and no not all Times Sq hotels have all of these)
walking distance to Broadway theaters
clean
quiet
have a closet
private bathroom with a functioning shower
a table/surface of some sort to put my wallet etc
cost less than $250 a night

Check out the Edison Hotel...you can get a room usually under $250 a night

I stayed at the Gallivant when it was the Wyndham three years ago. The rooms aren't small from what I remember but I probably had the king room.
Location is perfect, but no great views. I believe they've opened a terrace since. All we saw was the Gentlemans Guide to Love and Murder signs.
Avoid breakfast like the plague. Generally we found American Breakfasts disappointing compared to a UK full english. But the hotel had tendered out the breakfast catering and it was these wrinkly dried up excuses for sausage. Don't pay extra for breakfast. Maybe it's changed since Gallivant name change but usually the management stays the same.
There's a large Duane Read at the opposite end of the street which is hardly.
Stayed in the Hilton Garden in Times Square the last visit and loved it.
Not familiar with the other hotel you mention not even on searches for upcoming trip.

I made a reservation at the Gallivant once, but I cancelled it well in advance because I found the Citizen M a couple of blocks over and it appealed to me more. The Gallivant still charged my credit card on check-in day and it took a pretty lengthy phone call to get it straightened out and reversed.

After staying at the Millennium in Times Sq for the past 20 years, I've been staying at the Pod Hotel on 42nd for my past few visits. For anyone who's looking for a place to shower / sleep you can't beat it. It just opened in the Spring, located right near Port Authority (which is great for me as I bus it in from RI - who wants to lug around an overnight bag in NYC on hot, humid summer days or cold winter days?) on 42nd and 9th.
Keep in mind it's a 'pod' room, so there's not a spacious room. I always book the queen size bed for myself (though in a few weeks I'm travelling with someone). They also offer bunk beds if you don't want to share a bed with someone. The bathroom is big enough, and above all else - it's very clean and inexpensive (I think I pay - with fees - about $140 per night). It's very tech-oriented, too. If it's for a night or two - worth staying at.

I didn't know they opened a pod at mid town. I've stayed at the pod on the other side of town. It's nice to see that this one has all private bathrooms, because I'm too old for that shared bathroom crap.
However, it won't work with my dates currently. Will keep it in mind for the future!
