Guess I'll be seeing Brenda this Saturday then!
And ruthiefan, Matthew Settle was absolutely DREADFUL. No emotion, no characterization, no interest, no ANYTHING.
Brenda Braxton again? Why???????????????
She was sleepwalking through the show a few years ago when I saw her.
Terra is WONDERFUL in the role. She has a very dry but energetic portrayal of Velma.
I saw Braxton as Velma on tour in March as she was superb and far from sleepwalking at the performance I was at.
McLeod is a great dancer but her accent is a tad grating (similar to Ute Lemper's attempt to conceal hers on the London revival disc).
She'll be awesome! After a bunch of mediocre Roxies (Simpson, Williams), it's great to have someone with so much hype coming on.
What's the vibe on the new Billy? My friend told me it was the father from Gossip Girl, although I don't know whether that's true. If it is, he's the one I'm worried about.
Ute Lemper was trying to conceal her accent?
Ruthie Henshall in Chicago Broadway? Wow, guess I am out of the circle for too long.
Obviously not very well, Scripps. Sounds sort of like a German who has lived in Chicago for a few years.

Terra Macleod is a Canadian who has spent the majority of her career in the USA.
Accent? The woman is from North America. Not even remotely close to anything like Ute.
When Ruthie returned to the West End Terra was sent over to be her "Velma" and now will be returning to Broadway May 10th to reunite with Ruthie. That in itself says a lot.
They are a great pair and have great chemistry together.
MacLeod does phrase some things different musically but, there's absolutely no "grating accent." She is, without a doubt, the strongest of the three Velmas scheduled thus far with Henshall. A stunning presence and superb Fosse stylist.
The only problem I had with the all-Canadian Terra was some of her line changes. "I really cannot do it alone, eh?" just sounds wrong.
When I saw Terra in London, she did remind me of Ute alot (even tho I haven't seen ute live!) and it made me wonder if that was the reason for them to send Terra over. As for Amra... I don't really like her since sometimes I've seen her sleepwalking through the role, but when she's on top of her game, she's real good!
Someone please report back how Ruthie's doing!

Not one huh? I'm going this week so I might have to answer my own post!
Somewhat off-topic, but does anyone know where I can find a current cast list for the Chicago US Tour? The website only has dates and cities...

I can assure you in all the years Terra has been singing this song not once has she changed that lyric.
"I simply cannot do it alone" is a fundamental joke within the story telling and to compromise the lyric would ruin the joke that is scripted.
7 year and counting..not once has that line been changed

I am going tomorrow at 230...
Have a friend in it ...
Will see how it is....
Any more thoughts on the performance, GreatWhiteWay?
I wish they'd bring out an EP with new recordings of Ruthie singing Roxie's numbers. Her current interpretation should be recorded. Perhaps even a Live EP, a la Spring Awakening?
Long-running Broadway musicals could really utilise iTunes as a new avenue of business by releasing recordings, live or otherwise, of replacement cast members. I don't think it would undermine sales of Original Cast recordings. And die-hard fans would lap it up.

I saw it this afternoon.
I thought Ruthie's voice sounded strained like she was
losing her voice...damned weather i wouldn't be surprised.
I love the show and have a friend in it, but they need some energy
boosters or something.
It was very low key plus only half the orchestra was full.
I guess a full house makes the energy levels rise.
I felt like they all were saving the energy for tonight.

I kinda wish that Ute Lemper would return to the Broadway production in late June after Terra leaves to do the show with Ruthie. However, I know that probably won't happen.
