For people who have seen Ruthie on Broadway, is she doing the harmony at the end of I Am My Own Best Friend? I still maintain that the best version of that song was the duet between her and Karen Ziemba at the 10 year anniversary on Broadway.
Yep she did the harmony. Ruthie and Braxton's voices blend very well together.
Isn't there a story that John Kander did not want the harmony used because he did not write it?
I think it has made its way back into the production before Ruthie's return. But I think it's still a recent comeback.
Who wrote it? It's on the London cast recording, so I assumed that he wrote it in for Ruthie and Ute. Either way, I'm glad that it's come back. The only version of that song I can listen to now is the one from the London recording.
I assume the MD or someone added it for Ruthie and Ute. I definitely remember reading Kander was unhappy with it.
That's so interesting. I never knew that. It's a great harmony. Hopefully John has grown to like it even if it wasn't his.
I think in London, unless Ruthie's in the show, I've not heard that harmony sung by other pairs.

The harmony has been out more often that it has been in. However, I've seen the likes of Stephanie Pope, Karen Ziemba, Amy Spanger, Belle Calaway, Tracy Shayne, Roxane Carrasco, Donna Marie Asbury, among others, all take part in it. Recently, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Deidre Goodwin took an option in which Simpson sang a lower part, with Goodwin staying on the melody.

Why does Ruthie Henshall always sound like she's singing through lockjaw?
It's the result of a particularly nasty donkeypunch she received back in her Vagina Monologues days.
Were there ever any plans to release the tenth anniversary celebrations (New York or London) on CD/DVD? I'd love to hear the Henshall/Ziemba duet.
I'm as big a Ruthie fan as you can find but I wholeheartedly agree with the lockjaw sentiment.
It's her diva tick. Like Liza's slur (or whatever you call that liquid thing she's got going on lately) or Streisand's smugness.
