Saw yesterday's matinee and have very mixed reactions. I'm sorry, Scarlett just didn't do it for me and it didn't help that there was no particulary chemistry between her and the Rodolpho, who I felt was weak in the role. Schreiber has a way to go with this one -- he wasn't bad, but certainly didn't erase memories of LaPaglia or Tony LoBianco, who also was fabulous in the role back in 1982. The standout performance for me was Corey Stohl as Marco -- he really nailed it.
I just got back from the matinee. I agree about Corey Stohl being the standout. His Marco was really the only all-around well acted part, I thought. Scarlet was fine, but nothing to write home about. I was REALLY disappointed by both Santino Fontana and Jessica Hecht (who especially was playing her role the same way she did in Brighton Beach). Liev seemed very stilted to me. I thought the direction was bland, with most everything set downstage center. It wasn't a BAD production, but it was a boring one. I just didn't really care.

I saw this play today (Sunday) at a 3:00 PM matinee. I thought it was terrific. Liev Schreiber is outstanding as "Eddie." I was mesmerized by his performance. He gives so much. Scarlett Johansson is just fine. She needs perhaps to develop a little in terms of the sexual tension and some of the emotions... but she holds her own.
Jessica Hecht deserves a Tony for her work in this play. She is a remarkable theater actress.
I really had the feeling that everything was coming from places of real and raw truth. I loved this "A View from the Bridge" so much I may see it again. Lucky for me I can walk to the theater.
On TDF now--- sorry if already mentioned

hate that it is on TDF.. i bought 2 full price tickets for one of those days on the first day American Express presale went up.. so dissapointing haha, especially since i NEVER pay full price
All the TDF dates are coming up as sold out for me. Damn.
I really wanna see this...do you guys think it'll pop up on TDF again?
Nevermind...seeing it on Wednesday.
Why anyone would do TDF for this confuses me. It's general rush, and the tickets are cheaper than TDF tickets.

Because some people don't have that kind of time.

Because not everyone can be lined up at the box office at 10 AM on a weekday? Some people have, you know, jobs.

Sorry, I guess I didn't convey my thoughts as clearly as I should have. There doesn't seem to be high demand for these tickets. I got the sense that you could walk up a few hours before and still get a general rush ticket. And adamgreer... I also have a job, but thanks for telling me what that is.
I agree with bjh- I hardly think this will be a show you'll need to get in line at dawn to rush. Especially not during the week. And especially not in frigid January. Neither Schreiber nor Johanson have the name draw that would require that... tenacity.
Rushing shows doesn't always need getting there as soon as the box office attendant turns on their computer.

Okay, since you're talking about the rush, I did do it yesterday (Monday). The first people had gotten there at 8 AM--and it was COLD. I showed up at 9:15 (and yeah, I have a job but they do give me two days off By 10, there were about 20 people. They first gave out Row AA center orchestra, then gave out side center aisle seats in Row A and Row BB, which actually might be a bit better because the stage is indeed very high. At the risk of looking like a complete dweeb, I actually brought a small cushion with me so that I could really see from the front row (and hey, I'm so short, I knew it wouldn't bother the guy behind me!)
So I'd say that even though there were folks who managed to get rush tkts for Sunday's matinee at 12:30, I very much doubt that you could get anything but standing room if you WEREN'T there when the b.o. opened--especially later in the run, if the show isn't well-reviewed.
That said, it was a pleasure rushing this show. I'd kept looking for seats with the code and come up dry. So the happy surprise was that there were actually rush seat locations for last night's show that had gone for much higher prices for other performances on Telecharge. I'd thought about stage-dooring it but it would've been really hard to get from the front of the orchestra to that door in time to join that crowd, though I'm sure it can be done if you're seated in the back of the house.
Rush logistics aside, I enjoyed View from the Bridge a lot. Johansson was just fine and Liev Schreiber is always terrific. I didn't see the version with LaPaglia and Murphy so I can't compare the two...but for my $26.50, a great deal.

whoops, meant to say in the last post that rush seats would be harder to come by if the show WAS well-reviewed and I said the opposite...

Saw it tonight.. Great production.. Jessica Hecht plays Beatrice soooo much stronger than she is written and it was so great.. she stood out for me more than anyone
if you want to stage door, leave at the start of curtain call.. i left right at the blackout with my dad and we still weren't first at the barracade.. scarlett has very selective signing so good luck.. everyone besides her and liev walked out and left w/o signing.. people were everywhere looking for her, it was nuts
I don't suppose Scarlett took photos?

no she didn't and she didn't sign to many playbills which got me really upset because i was right there and she didn't sign mine but these girls next to me had like 3 each and she signed each one.. but whatever
