So I am planning a trip to NYC for Christmas pretty much just to go see Anything Goes. I know that it is on just a open ended run right now... and I get super paranoid about these things, haha But what do you think the chances are of Anything Goes still being open by Christmas time??
It's on sale through January 8, 2012.

Any sense of when cast members might be leaving, specifically Sutton?
I simply cannot see her leaving the show before the holidays. I'm guessing her contract is up on the 8th.

I really hope that when Sutton leaves the show goes on.
I am waiting to see the show when she is not in it. I wasn't able to get into the city to see it when she was on vacation.

^she was out Thursday and her understudy was terrific!
I agree! We saw Anything Goes the week Sutton Foster was out... I never saw Sutton but Tari Kelly was amazing! I would definitely go see Tari in the role again! It was a great show. I hope it has a long run and if Sutton leaves, Tari get the lead.
The production has extended through April 29, 2012, and Sutton has renewed her contract until the end of the run.

major bummer
I guess I'll have to wait for her next vacation.
I'm doing the same. I don't know if she'll take another vacation (although maybe they gave her one for extending), but it seems like she's been out here and there lately. I'd much rather see Tari Kelly.
why don't they simply make it an open run by now?? It's selling very well.

Seriously! This show definitely has power and strong legs - and they don't have to be Sutton's. I know a lot of people, tourists, who know Anything Goes and would love to see it. They have no clue who is in it.
Someone at ATC posted this, and I know some of you are interested in seeing Tari Kelly (I know I am now). Sutton is apparently co-directing a college production of The Drowsy Chaperone in Indiana and will be at the school for approximately three weeks. I'm sure those dates will be on telecharge at some point.

Tari is wonderful. I've seen her twice as Reno now and will definitely be catching her as much as I can during that stretch that sutton is away.

Mind-blowing comments in general. And that last one is so condescending — as if Sutton isn't a major draw. Plus, a year ago part of the major buzz here is that this was to be another Marshall influenced Roundabout flop. I guess Marshall must have come through. Or perhaps Tari is simply saving the show from Marshall and Sutton when she goes on, much as Reba or Zeta Jones would have done if Roundabout had not "settled" for Sutton, a "settling" some of you bemoaned a year ago, and even predicted that the show would be a "disaster" because of it if it even "panned out."
Yes this show does have "power and legs" given to it by Sutton. A year ago few on this message board would have imagined the Tony's it would get, including Sutton's. And certainly not that it would have been extended twice to over a year from its premiere. Now that it has gotten that second extension, the discussion here has gone right back to essentially Sutton inadequate/Sutton miscast, "I'm waiting til she isn't on" crap: Despite her Tony, Despite her Reviews (majority of note) and Despite Audience Reaction.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion but this is in the far "out there" minority. And, it invariably crops on this board in regards to WHATEVER (Shrek anyone?) show Sutton is in: The Understudy is always sooooooo much better. It is a ridiculous opinion in my opinion. Sutton is a genius, and that is taking nothing away from her outstanding understudies. Wonder when Sutton will be fully appreciated as she deserves by all the Broadway community.
Now with this extension she will celebrate her 37th birthday in Anything Goes and it will also mark her 20th year on the professional boards since Tommy Tune cast her in the Tour of Will Rogers Follies. Still, I bet that when she is Angela Lansbury's age and has all Tony records and the Kennedy Center Honor for Lifetime Achievement, some here will still be holding out for her understudy de jour. (She's sooooo much better)

It's really not condescending to tell you and everyone who is familiar with Broadway that most people do not know the name Sutton Foster. It's just a fact of the way Broadway stars are versus Hollywood or the like. The average person does not know Broadway stars. Just because you and your friends do doesn't mean much about the wider audience. Condescending my ass.

The wider audience has much more knowledge of the star on the marquis than it is given credit for. "Condescending my ass" sums up the mentality of most of these comments. And, the talent of the leading lady, Sutton Foster, propelled the success of this show no matter who knew of her beforehand. Nice that so many of you here are only willing to see the show when she is on vacation. Futile to respond to these threads, though their disgusting nature almost seems to compel it. Go back and look at pasts threads, over 80% of this board was against Sutton's Reno and Marshall's direction from the beginning and even maintained that right up through their rooting for Sister Act and HTSINBWRT right up to the Tony's, maintaining against all evidence that whether AG was a hit or not, "remains to be seen." Now, that it is undeniably (though I am sure some here will still argue that) a hit, Sutton Tony and extensions included, most of the commentators on this thread will only see it when Sutton is out. "Ass" (es) indeed.
PS Without taking anything away from her understudy, Anyone who will admit it knows exactly what "legs and power" this show would have at the Sondheim if Sutton left for good next week. (Millie or Drowsy anyone?) Not a chance in hell it would be there through the holidays let alone through next April. (Plus I thought this show wasn't supposed to survive Marshall's direction no matter who was in the lead - remember? Silly, very weird little board, I might find you amusing if you weren't so absurd)

For whatever it's worth, their worst week in terms of attendance was the week she was on vacation. They were at 70.3% capacity. The next lowest attended week was 9/6-9/11 when they were at 88.8%.
She's not anywhere close to a household name, but she (and the fact that she won a Tony for this role) is prominently featured in all the advertising, so people understandably want to see her performance.

That was also the week of the hurricane.
Personally, I love Sutton and am glad she extended.

And, the week of Sutton's vacation and the hurricane (that closed Weekend performances) HTSIBWRT was down 1.6% from the previous week, whereas with Sutton's departure, in the same hurricane week that HTSINBWRT had to contend with, Anything Goes was down 28.3% from the previous week. Then, the week of 9-11 AG was down only 3.5% while HTSIBWRT was down over 18% .....Sutton does indeed have very long and powerful legs.

I was suprised to see that most of the original cast with the exception of Jessica Walter and Laura Osnes are still in the show. Does anyone have any info on the status of their contracts, including Joel Grey. I would like to see this on November 11. Also it was mentioned that Sutton is now occassionally out. That was one of the reasons I did not see this back in June. I just didn't want to risk not seeing her. She was out when I saw Young Frankenstein and many missed her in Shrek (which luckly I did see her). How is her attendence record?
Sutton's attendance record in Anything Goes was very good until she injured her back right before vacation in August. She's already missed 3 performances this week. I'm going to try to see it again on Sunday. I think she is absolutely wonderful in the show, but I won't be disappointed to see Tari Kelly.
