Well I'm not sure that this will save the show, but it's the best move the Weisslers could make. I think the reviews will be MUCH stronger for D'Amboise. And while Applegate was indeed a hook for press, can anything top this "Cinderella" story: Long time underdog finally gets big break where no one was expecting it and goes into struggling show and makes it big on Broadway!
If she's half as good as Charity as I imagine, she's got to be Tony bound.

I was thinking the same thing, Joe.
I'll still see Charlotte in Boston. Now I'll be able to focus on the show, and not just Christina

I think this thread is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous!!! I mean jeez half of you sound like horribly mean spirited jealous freaks and that is putting it mildly! I mean who cares I can almost hear MUUUHHHHAH's. She is out permanently??? Who knows and I for some reason doubt it.
To me looks like the article took bits and pieces of quotes and put it to their liking. Looking at other articles it does not seem like this is the end of her. Will she be back in before the 21st..who knows? I personally think that as talented as Ms. d'Amboise is...it does not mean Christina is out at all. I have friends who now did not buy tickets due to this news (and most love musicals (not just her) but wanted to see her do this role). My sisters want to sell the tickets to Friday show in Boston. I am not letting them but the thing is..some people really wanted to go to see her and see her sing & dance. So personally I think it could hurt ticket sales a bit regardless of how talented Charlotte d'Amboise is.
I also after reading a few of these posts understand that half of you have not even seen her in it..just maybe read a review...so to say she is stinks is a little bold and premature to stay. I have read some reviews from folks who have seen her who say she is great...I myself was not going to make any comments until I saw her Friday which I can not now. BUT I will tell you how it is truthfully with the new cast.
Now on to the broken foot issue..I have broken my foot and before a dance competition and let me tell you it is not fun!! The time your foot has to remain in a cast is not that long. Mine was 2 ½ weeks. THEN after I had my cast taken off, my leg was so weak I literally collapsed to the ground when I thought I could stand. Your muscles get all icky..haha it is weird let me tell you. THEN I had to stay off of it for an additional 2 weeks with a booty on so I would not cause any little stress fractures to the healing bone. So it is a bit at least a month recovery. Some people push it and get back on the foot (I skimped a little on my healing time) but I was pushing maybe an hour once a week of dancing on it…she would be going back to 8 shows a week dancing at least 2 hours on it. She could screw up her foot. So I think people should not make it into this secret issue of making her stay out longer then she should. I bet she gets back earlier then any expected!

Posted: 3/15/05 at 12:00pmI think people are just all atwitter here Karma76. The Weisslers have been talking about this show for years ...actresses have come and gone and now after years of searching for a 'name', they are being forced to open the show with a relative no-name who happens to be a very talented triple-threat who has certainly paid her dues. I think people can't help but think there is something fishy with the news of the other firings and the constant changes to the opening and closing of the show. It's just fun to talk about and speculate the outcome of this seeming Cinderella story.

Posted: 3/15/05 at 12:02pmWOW- the nastiness on this thread is unreal. I hope that if any of you are planning a career in this industry that you be VERRRRRRRY careful and not get hurt yourself! Karma is a bitch and she will slap you right back.....tenfold!

Posted: 3/15/05 at 12:03pmI get that but why Christina Applegate who seems to honestly have done nothing here. She honestly has enjoyed performing since a kid. There have been far more haneous people who have been used as stunt casting. Personally, I do not think this will be a cinderella story if they do not get their stuff together if you know what i mean.

Posted: 3/15/05 at 12:05pmI shattered my foot in my last car accident and was in a wheelchair for 2 months. I was getting around with a profound limp for another two months. It still bothers me when the weather change. Feet take time to heal.

I am delighted for Charlotte! Hopefully, she will help keep the audience awake in this show, that was never good to begin with. TODAY, I read they have replaced two supporting players. The producers think those performers they replaced were a problem?
It would be nice if they could take this whole cast and crew and put it in a Broadway musical with a great score and a great book. SWEET CHARITY always had to strive to achieve being mediocre.
The Weisslers never saw SWEET CHARITY onstage or are unaware of its previous box office flopdoms?(The box office was ok when Gwen Verdon starred in it and was briefly ok when Debbie Allen starred in it.) I just don't understand why these folks think this third rate musical will make them money.

Posted: 3/15/05 at 1:24pmI guess I wouldn't blame CA for not wanting to 'replace' Charlotte who will always be listed as opening the production. If CA does go in, then we know that she is in fact quite dedicated to the project.

Posted: 3/15/05 at 1:53pmI bought tickets to see Christina. I'm really disappointed that she won't be opening on Broadway and am considering returning my tix. She has seemed dedicated from the beginning, and I hope she eventually enters the Broadway production. I'm thinking the same thing as Mistress: if they really want to open the show with her (I'm not buying these conspiracy theories), couldn't they push it back a while? Even if it has to be considered for next year's Tonys?
#88re: Applegate out, D'Amboise in permanently
Posted: 3/15/05 at 1:59pmThey'd have to put the entire production on hold. Just like with Bob Fose and CHICAGO, when he got his heart attack. It does cost money to do this you know. And the Weissler's are producers after all. I love Christina A., and would have loved to see her in this role. But Charlotte is truly wonderful and if those of yo uwho want to refund yoru tickets don't give her a chance than the show will close altogether and there will be a zero, no wait, negative chance that Christina A. will ever do it (even as a replacement)

The Weisslers have lost bucks on replacing Christina..but they'd loose more to shut the whole show down. Positive reviews may pave the way for future, fabulous Charitys....

Well...the Weisslers did just produce "Wonderful Town," which isn't the best musical ever written. Of all the Comden and Green shows I think it is one of their worst to be honest. In my opinion "On The Town" is their best. I don't know why they thought they would make money off of WT. But "Sweet Charity" is a definite step up for sure.

Posted: 3/15/05 at 2:31pmwell i cant say i agreee but..isnt it interesting that about 10 years ago tommy tune was in an out of town tryout for Busker Alley (produced by the Weisler') and mysteriously he too broke his foot..and the show was cancelled..hmmmmmmmm?????
#92re: Applegate out, D'Amboise in permanently
Posted: 3/15/05 at 2:52pmNow that you mention it, Jimmy Hoffa starred in the Passaic tryout of the Weisslers revival of Mexican Hayride. We all know how that turned out.

Posted: 3/15/05 at 3:05pmI'm with Margo Channing on this one. Applegate won't be back if Charlotte gets the reviews. It's really very sad. People with the production had nothing but nice things to say about Applegate.

Posted: 3/15/05 at 3:11pmWISHIHADATONY, the whole board right now is very aware of your disdain for SWEET CHARITY. You can stop attacking it on every single 'Charity' thread on the board. We got the picture the first time. No need to beat a dead horse.

Posted: 3/15/05 at 3:12pmWhen Andrea McArdle broke her foot during STATE FAIR she was going to be out for up to 12 weeks. Susan Egan came in as her replacement. The show closed before McArdle could return.

Well sorry to say but I will not be giving a review. My sister (it was her birthday present) has opted to return the tickets in light of all this, so we will not be seeing it at all.
Whoever goes please write a review!
