I was listening to Peter Filichia on the Broadway Radio podcast and he feels badly for the creators of CARRIE having to see their show flop twice now in New York. Filichia believes that the writers must regret this revival because it meant having their hearts broken all over again. I wonder if the creators are happy with Stafford Arima's production...some say this Off-Broadway CARRIE is too small and cheap-looking but I really loved the intimacy of this revival and sitting in the second row I was so close to the action and emotionally involved in the story.
I hope the creators are able to see the glass as half full and not half empty. Yes, it is a shame that once again CARRIE was dependant on the reviews and once again the critics killed it. But I think they should be grateful that the revival allowed a new generation to see the show and it certainly seems that the audience likes this show much more than the critics. Also, I think they should be glad that this revival gave us Molly Ranson and Marin Mazzie as the leads. Their performances made the show very memorable and Mazzie was called excellent by Ben Brantley and both were nominated today for Lucille Lortel Awards.
Will the creators release the rights and allow other productions? Or do they just want CARRIE to go away? What do other people think?

The creators saw what Stafford was doing before audiences did and they gave him their blessing. I think they were happy with the less campy/existential staging. I doubt they have regrets.
Who gets a do-over? Not many people. I loved the revival.

And IT Was Weak.

Obviously. They have to take the road of class and say they are proud, impressed, etc.

Yes, they should dump a bucket of pigs' blood on all the critics' heads.

They aimed for 90 and hit, maybe, 25 at best. They just don't have what it takes to write what they wanted to write. It's like a good comedian who yearns to do a tragedy.
"...once again CARRIE was dependant [sic] on the reviews and once again the critics killed it... it certainly seems that the audience likes this show much more than the critics."
Reductive and just plain wrong statements like those do no one any favors. The critics didn't "kill" the show, and many audience members thought it was a piece of utter garbage. You may have liked it, your friends may have liked it, but it failed because not enough people were telling people it was worth seeing (because, in my opinion, it wasn't worth seeing).
It's not like these writers are at all prolific - they've done very little in their careers, considering how old they are and how early they started. They should be glad they got a chance at all to do better work; what they should regret is that they were completely unable to do better work.
