OK thesbijean, that was just WRONG!!!!
Give me a moment to stop laughing now.
Ok.
That said.....it was indeed a low point of the award ceremony. Were they even attempting be be "dueting"? It appeared to me that each singer was following their own timing!

I was there and cringed at every last note. They were both pretty bad but her screeching was intolerable. yikes. My friend made a funny but horribly wrong joke about her... I dunno if Ill offend anyone if I post it though (had to do with her size these days)

it was horrible.....she didn't seem to care that she wasn't blending or even going at the same time as him. I felt bad for Hugh.

I thought it looked rather like she decided to wear the Egyptian shower curtain from a Target themed bathroom set (the other parts, of course, being soap dishes that look like "Egyptian" hands and a toothbrush holder shaped like King Tut's head).

I agree, she really did not sound very good last night.

But some people can be excused once in a while.
Because she's Aretha Franklin. Come now.

My dad compared her to a dying cat.
It's really sad. I was expecting something great. I did not recieve something even remotely good. Aretha's voice has not held up.
I wonder... Why didn't they get someone younger? Mariah Carey could have sung that wonderfully. She just released a major album. She would bring in viewers. It could ruin her "street cred" though. Whatever. Beyonce should have done it. Aretha was just .. so... BAD!

I can't believe that Aretha was so bad. That has to be one of the worst performances in Tony history. Why did it seem like Hugh Jackman and Arethea were in a competion. It was like she was trying to outsing him and he trying to to do the same with her. Now if they wanted to go for old school Divas they could've gotten maybe Patti Labelle, or even better my all time favorite Miss Diana Ross. Diana would've been perfect. I have heard her do a perfect rendition of Somewhere when she was with The Supremes.

I agree, but she would have been better than Aretha. She could have done it in Italian! That would go with the whole Tuscan Piazza theme. Right?

i don't blame her. whoever selected her and that song had a screw loose. hugh (or any number of b'way performers) could have sung a lovely solo.

Hugh was wrong for that song. His voice is too broad. Kelli O'Hara would have sounded gorgeous singing that song.
