@FineByDesign got me thinking about this. I think it could work. She can definitely handle the vocals and she was on Broadway when she was 15 (the cast of 13 The Musical - Jason Robert Brown).
I actually think this is the best option we have from mainstream hollywood potential. It's a better idea than Anna Kendrick who seems to be taking all the roles these days. I'm still not entirely sure why.

Just in case you doubt her belting ability
Ariana Grande - Only Girl In The World
I wonder if the producers of "Cinderella" have offered her the role of Ella. She would be a good choice.

I agree but Lily James already has that role right
I think the poster above meant Broadway's Cinderella (as their next stunt casting following Carly Rae Jepsen)
And I would love the idea of Ariana as Belle in a Bill Condon's Beauty and the Beast
Except the fact that Disney has a pride of not wanting to use Nickelodeon's discovery like Ari...
Althought last wednesday she was doing some promotional stuff for Disney Parks so there might be a chance
Anyway....... Ariana is more of a Glinda than Elphaba for sure.
I'd love to see her as Ella much more than CRJ. Someone did say the producers were offering different pop stars Ella. I'm betting that she was one of them.

I'd love to see her back on stage. I'm just not quite sure if she would take on a role right now that isn't on the big screen.
She would play Ella well though I agree.
I actually think she could pull off Glinda and Elphaba. Maybe her voice is a bit too light for Elphaba but I wouldn't cross it off until I see it happen. Ariana has a rare talent at having a very powerful voice as light as it may be and her belting seems very healthy or at least she can do it night after night without messing up at all.
This is a great idea. Forgive my ignorance, but is a Wicked movie already in the works? I didn't know...
@Stephen Oof. That old video that you posted did not help. She's come a long way from that.

She's said that she doesn't want to act anytime soon once her TV show is done. She wants to focus on her music only.
A Wicked movie has been in the works since 2007 .
I think she would make an amazing Glinda! In some interviews, she said her dream roles are Audrey in "Little Shop" and Glinda in "Wicked". I am a big fan of her and her music and hope she plays this role!

I've also heard that Lea Michele might play Galinda. Maybe if that happened Ariana could be Elphaba. Do you think that would work?
I think it would be perfect. They would both make good Galinda's though lol. I can't make up my mind but together obviously Lea couldn't be Elphaba

Jennifer Lawrence as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. Done!
"also heard that Lea Michele might play Galinda"

@ShakinBaconGirl No credible source. Just got me thinking of the possibility.
@jbroadway4 Can Jennifer Lawrence even sing.

If anything, Lea is Elphaba. I can't see her as Glinda at all.
I believe Jennifer can sing. She sung in a movie called "House At The End Of The Street" and is actually quite good.
@Stephan Did you just not see my post...
She does NOT want to do anymore acting. There is no "she can", "she could", or "maybe".

True. Lea could only be Elphaba and we all know she can sing Defying Gravity
@justin I know very well how she feels about acting
Ariana Grande: “After I’m done playing Cat Valentine I don’t see myself doing much acting, but I would do a scary movie or a musical."

Oh.

There are many women who could play Elphaba in the film. I don't care who it is, just as long as they pick an actress who can actually sing the score as it was intended. None of that Madonna Evita crap.
