I personally wouldn't call him a name even now, but that's neither here nor there. This chat board has insisted that that's why Emmett's role was beefed up in the stage adaptation. I find it so distracting, imo it takes away a lot of the agency from Elle. My favorite line in the movie was "I'll show you how valuable Elle Woods can be" which was replaced by the entire Chip On My Shoulder scene which is...not only the worst song in the show, but also a complete inversion of what Elle's journey was like in the source material.

And Chip on My Shoulder is definitely not the worst song in that very uneven score lol
