I agree with an awful lot of what BK says. I found this to be a souless production. They sang, they said words and they danced that beautiful choreography. They just didnt' FEEL anything.
However: I took my hs kids (about 90 of them) and only a handful of them loved it. Most were just as disappointed as was I. They pretty much hit the nail on the head with their own criticisms. (and yes, I know I've posted this before but I thought it was worth addressing here.)

The other day I read a comment by Sondheim about the Spanish in the current WSS. He said that the Spanish and English speaking Sharks make the Jets look dumb.
Why did he think that?
I liked this revival better than the movie, but I probably would like ANY professional stage production better than the movie. I'm really shallow, I hate the cinamatography. :)

I haven't seen the revival, but I'd imagine there is actual truth behind that: Bi-lingual gang members would seem much more intelligent than the Jets.
But even in the movie the Jets seemed dumb with their 'street' American accents (sorry I'm not American so I can't describe it well).

Posted: 5/10/09 at 8:02pmIt's not their accents. It's Arthur's embarrassing dialogue for the Jets, with its "frabba-jabba" and "coolio."

Yes, you're correct about the stupid "movie button" on Something's Coming. I try to block it out, guess I was doing a good job of it
Hmm, I don't recall the extra measures in Krupke, but it could be. I don't like what they did with the tempos, holding the "Krup"-ke harmony too long, and then speeding up the next phrase which is supposed to be slower, almost like a kick-line finale. I could have focused too much on that.

When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way,
From your first pirouette, to your last Grand Jete...
