Hi all! I am a student and have been allowed to view one of the broadway recording from the NYPL. I have decided on Assassins and was wondering if anyone had any input on whether I should watch the original off broadway cast or the revival. Thank you!
I only know the cast recordings and am in the minority here which prefers the revival with NPH and Michael Cerveris.
One factor for you may be that the original did not have "Something Just Broke" which was added later. There are other differences, but this is the biggest.
Original for the album, revival for watching the production at the library.

revival Neil sounded amazing, Micheal gave his best performance well one of in this production. Did not see him in Fun Home. But could see why he got the tony. His U/S was amazing though

I had tickets to the revival but then it closed, so please watch it on my behalf.
The original Assassins was a very bare-bones staging compared to the revival.
I didn't see the revival but, based on the recordings, the original cast wins hands down. Annie Golden's Unworthy of Your Love is just gorgeous. Victor Garber is fantastic on the Ballad of Booth. Something Just Broke is a fine number but not the best in the show nor do I find it a missing piece in the OCR.

There are few bigger fans of NPH than I, but Patrick Cassidy's voice is perfect for the Balladeer. I'd watch the original for him alone, but I'm sure the revival had much better production values.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've decided on the revival, because I can listen to the album anytime, but if the visuals and staging are better in the reviva, I really only have one chance to see those. Thanks!
Pretty sure there's a so-so quality video of the revival on Youtube - if that helpd you at all.
