Was anybody else in aw of Audra's performance. It was so natural and fun
That woman is a gem.
I gasped when I saw her do a cartwheel over in the air without touching the ground.
I wish Audra could have gotten the tony as well.
Congrats to Christine though

Great performance. Loved it.
She did touch the ground. She didn't do an aerial.

Brava to Audra Mcdonald

Posted: 6/10/07 at 11:59pmDid she, Ashley? I didn't see her touching the ground but then again my eyes suck. I just know it was the best performance of the night (yes, kids, a better Tony performance than Ebersole's, perhaps as good as David Hyde Pierce's cute-as-a-button pseudo-kicks).

As good as she was, "Raunchy" is actually better during "110"--!!
And Audra does the aerial then !!! :)
EDIT: Didnt look like she touched the ground to me either, but could be wrong.. In the show, she DEFINITELY doesnt touch the ground.

I totally missed her aerial during 110, but her performance is even better during the show. And the ending is funnier.
Now I'm mad that I missed her aerial! This is like when I kept missing the lift scene in Dirty Dancing when it was on tv...

I can't express how much I love this woman!!! WOW. From the moment she started I was impressed! So natural... powerful... simple... and brilliant.
And the aerial was amazing! I swear she didn't touch the ground. Either way, it ROCKED!
Couldn't have been more impressed with this performance!!!

That was my favorite performance tonight. Followed by Curtains and Raul.

I saw the show for the first time last night and what she delivered on the Tony awards is an exact fitting of what you can expect to see at Studio 54. And yes, in the theater she didn't touch the ground at all on that little aerial bit

Posted: 6/11/07 at 2:27amWatched it again, she did touch the ground. This just means I have to go see the real thing in the theatre!

It was really fun. I was just taken aback by how different it was from Marin Mazzie's at the Pasadena Playhouse, where she did a lot of it much closer to her dad...hm.

She's so brilliant and beautiful.
The only awards they got wrong were best actor and actress in a musical.
*sigh*

Posted: 6/11/07 at 7:20amI thought to myself, "If that doesn't win you a Tony, I don't know what does." 'Course I've seen the clip of "Old Maid" on Broadway.com. So I thought, "Oh, she got it in the bag."

I loved her performance on the Tonys, but I agree that it was even better when I saw the show.
And, she did not do the aerial when I saw the show or last night.

Yea, I looked again, she did touch the ground. What she did was jump into the cartwheel and was half way in the air upside down before she touched the groud. Still Amazing!
I want to see her in the show to see if she actually does an ariel. She was real close last night.

Posted: 6/11/07 at 9:28amI have always love Audra, but I was disappointed in her performance last night. I did not think it was "natural" at all. I felt it was forced and contrived and schticky. Her accent could have been learned from a "Learn Dialects With Max Bear" tape. And vocally her technique was showing as she has been known to do in the past. But on a song that should just be, well, raunchy, it was too high-falutin.

I completely disagree with you SueleenGay, Audra's performance was anything but high falutin. The fact that she didn't make it over the top and showy made it more real. It was a very natural performance. look at it again.
I do respect your opinion though.
