Are these 2 shows similar? I wasn't a big fan of Q...and I have never watched South Park. Is this a show that appeals to the musical theatre fans-ONLY crowd?

They are both funny and clever shows, but I would say that I found "Book of Mormon" much funnier than "Avenue Q." For some reason, I like "Avenue Q" but never found it as laugh-out-loud funny as most people do. At "Book of Mormon," though, I couldn't stop cracking up. I am not a South Park fan and enjoyed "Book of Mormon." I found "Book of Mormon" much more crude in parts than "Avenue Q," which I didn't really appreciate. Overall, though, I liked "Book of Mormon" better and would recommend it to most anyone.
Thanks! I guess I gotta see it, if other non-South Park fans enjoyed it.

I guessed these comparisons were inevitable, so let me just say that as a not so big SouthPark fan, I enjoyed both shows very much, but Avenue Q had better tunes, and a story line that a lot of us can relate to, and then again B of M had a lot of fantastic dance scenes.
Cannibal! The Musical and The Book of Mormon are not very similar at all, except that they obviously have the same sense of humor. I adore Cannibal! but naturally The Book of Mormon is WAY better written.
And yes I am biased in loving this show. But I have yet to hear from anyone and see anyone at the show who did not enjoy it.
Ouch. I can't ask a stupid question without taking a hit?!

I hate Avenue Q and I really enjoyed Book of Mormon. I think Trey Parker and Matt Stone have a better book than Jeff Whitty did. Also Casey Nicholaw's direction is MUCH better than Jason Moore's direction of Q.
