Probably right AG - Berkeley took their wait list most likely means that they accepted their wait list. She didn't even know he had applied or was wait listed but they called to accept him. Makes total sense.

The At Swim, Two Boys discussion thread is up! Quite a few of us have read it now, so I thought it was time to start it up. Now let's go over and talk about our favourite new novel!

That makes sense AG, it's probably just the phrasing that threw me off. The way there's that nanosecond pause and then goes up, Berkeley took..their wait list. Okay, that made sense in my head, I swear it did.

Who me, sweat the small stuff? Never.

I'm with AG. I assumed it meant that Peter was accepted by Berkeley as in they took their wait list which included Peter. I don't think you would know whether a school took their wait list unless you were accepted.

Hey guys:
I picked up the Advocate at Barnes and Noble at lunch. It is a 1 1/2 page article with a picture (mislabled) of Jon & Damon. It is a nice little article. Bare is also on the next page with a little snippet about the new gay related Broadway/Off-Broadway shows. I think they mixed up Jon & Damon...unless I always had it backward. I always thought Damon was the shorter of the two :)

ok since we were talking about lyric clarification

I have been wondering about, at the end of no voice or Dear Jason when Peter says... "In a world thats quick to judge, I will try to understand..its so hard to find your way when you have no voice to guide you"

what is it that he will try to understand? I assume it is either why Jason did what he did or that the world WILL judge him and he needs to understand them or he will never accept himself...like Jason couldnt.

YAY for Bobby's great new icon!

Who is it? It looks like Joey Fatone for some reason, even though I probably know the answer I'm gonna get....

And that Berkeley line makes sooooo much more sense now! :-P

Just wanted to affirm my absolute love for the musical 'bare.' Damon and I go way back. He attended the first staged reading of my show, The Last Session, and told me it inspired him to write his own musical. Several year later, he invited my partner and myself to the first staged reading of 'bare.' It was glorious even then, but we had a long talk about it at the Denny's in North Hollywood and gave our opinions (as I'm sure everyone gave him theirs).

The next time I saw it, the improvements were remarkable. He had found his voice -- and I love that he has fought to maintain the integrity of his vision. You wouldn't believe how many "bigwigs" tried to change it, "un-gay" it, etc.

But with the Dodgers, he has the perfect producer and I cannot wait to see it re-open. I salute all of you for your passion. You are the reason 'bare' lives.

wow, scary adam...

I salute all of you for your passion. You are the reason 'bare' lives.

*tear* All this, and half of the posters haven't even had the fortune of seeing the show yet. Just wait until October when everyone gets the chance.

On another note, my this show has definitely grown. Call it Damon finding his "voice" or whatever, but having listened to the LA cast (um...I just keep telling myself it's a work-in-progress...) and having seen the ATA run as many times as I did (my poor wallet), Damon has definitely found SOMETHING. How many other threads can boast the passion this one does? And the Official Walli-Woo thread does NOT count...(tho I luv it so).

For someone who was questioning what Damon looks like, I took these pictures of him just a month or two ago out here in L.A. It's on the link below. Just scroll down.

Thanks Steve--I knew what Damon looked like, but the Advocate magazine mislabeled the picture with he and Jon Hartmere :) Thanks for clarifying :)

Thanks so much Steve for the info and insight. I just went to the Big Voice website and it looks great. I'm going to try and find room in my NYMF schedule for it! :)

Got the Advocate tonight. Here's the pic of Jon and Damon. It's a great article as well. Let me know if I'm not allowed to post up this pic and I'll take it down.

That's such a nice thing to say. But it's okay if you're really thinking "you're all nuttier than fruitcakes, but as long you're harmless..." share the bare love

Congrats on having your show in the NYMF!

Poor Jon never seems to get as much credit as he does. It's his lyrics that haunt me, as much as I love the music Damon created.

>That's such a nice thing to say. But it's okay if you're really thinking "you're all nuttier than fruitcakes, but as long you're harmless..."

I am the same way about a show I really love. I want to know everything and everyone connected to it. It's what deepens the experience and makes it more fun. In theatre, because a show runs every night -- and every performance is different, it's not like a movie where you're more disconnected from the action. At a movie, the stars don't exit the theatre. They're long gone.

"bare" is about passion. (So is The Big Voice, BTW, IMNSHO). It's about passion for life and for honesty and for "baring" our souls, the healthiest way to overcome tragedy and pain.

Like Rent, 'bare' comes from that rarest of places so it's not at all surprising to me that it is drawing the same youthful, idealistic crowd. Plus, the songs rock!

That's such a great way of thinking about it. Here I sometimes feel guilt for being so obsessed (sounds like such a bad word), like I should be focused on something more productive. But what fun would life be without enjoying things so thoroughly?

Now you're tempting my wallet to open and buy tickets for The Big Voice. I've read nothing but rave reviews! I'll have to double check my schedule.

I don't know a single human being who doesn't have fun with harmless "obsessions" like a great music group or a great movie or a great tv show or chess or checkers or knick-knacks. Trust me, anyone who rags on you for becoming obsessed over 'bare' or anything else that has become meaningful to you is just jealous that they don't share a passion for something.

It's actually healthy to have something like this as a hobby. We were a much smaller show (The Last Session), but the fans and well-wishers and industry people who became obsessed with TLS -- we created a family and a community that continues to this day. That's not "wasting time". Building community based on a mutual passion for a work of art is a solidly productive pasttime, IMO (as long as it isn't the ONLY thing one does).

Now you're tempting my wallet to open and buy tickets for The Big Voice. I've read nothing but rave reviews! I'll have to double check my schedule.

Tell ya what, if you don't like The Big Voice, see me in the lobby and I'll give you your 15 bucks back. Come early in the run so if you do like it, you'll tell everyone. We are coming into town with zero promotion money, preferring to simply show up and see what happens on word of mouth only. It's been 7 years since The Last Session. So I have no idea how well people will remember.

But yeah, give it a shot. I didn't see 'bare' in New York so you can tell me all about it.

Thank you for putting this soooo well, it is all too often, that I feel like an outsider, when I even begin to discuss the passion that I have for a show like Bare or any of my other favorites, most people look at me like I am crazy!! I always try to help them relate by using the movie comparison which I agree that it is no where even close to seeing a live show, but sometimes it helps. It is sort of like if their favorite movie of all time was playing every night, but always changing either the performances or performers, then they sort of start to get it, but still think I am crazy!!

Anyway, I wish I could go see The Big Voice, living outside of NY is just so sad sometimes, but like everything else in September, I will unfortunatley have to just add it to my missed list which is getting longer by the minute. share the bare love

Thanks for sharing your passion for Bare!!

Oh Steve, you make me an offer I can't refuse! I'm quite sure I won't want a refund. I'm looking into the dates now (all these different shows to pick from, not enough time). And goodness knows I've become very good at convincing people to do/see/read things they know nothing about. I'll let you know what date I can get there.
