So, its been reported that some of the BARE cast will not been in the run that starts in September. Does anyone know who in particular will be leaving? Is it because of prior engagments or OTHER reasons?
Chatting with one of the gals who works for Dodger, she said that THEY were looking to recast some roles, and others... well, the bottom line is, actors need to work to pay the bills. And a 4 month layover isn't exactly economically friendly. So, they may loose some because of other work... some they might otherwise want to keep. But only 1 name was mentioned as being replaced. I don't want to be "that guy" who starts the rumours. (believe it or not...) But it looks like the producers only want the show to get bigger and bigger, so my impression is that they'll make the right choices. I guess we'll see!
Micheal Aden needs to stay. Question: this isnt just a rumor is it? they really are reopening? i dont wanna get my hopes up and then have to be all pissed off at the message board for being wrong. What are the details with it? are they moving to another off bway theatre or on bway? shanks
Michael Arden definitely needs to stay. I thought his performance was particularly touching and well done. He fits the character so well and portrays it nicely.
I'm betting that Jenna Leigh Green will take off back to L.A. I don't know why, but I just have a feeling she won't hang around the NYC theatre scene too long. Although I hope she will, because she was really great in BARE and surprised me a lot with her singing and acting abilities!
Haha, I loved Sister Chantelle. Though it was sometimes hard to understand what she was saying, she was still great. I love the way she rolled her eyes at everything.
Well, during the last 2 weeks of the run, there was a sticker added to the front of the playbill that says "ReOpening 9/21 at New Off Broadway Home!" So... they themselves are publicizing it!
I liked John Hill better the second time I saw it, but both times he didn't strike me as standing out aside from his second act solo. I liked him and everything but Michael Arden stands out so much that Hill just can't match him.
I thought John Hill was fabulous the first time I saw it, but the second time, I kind of felt he was on auto pilot. Then again, his character is more of the easy-going jock type, so I suppose one could argue it works, but... I kinda think it was an off night. Others I've talked with agree. Hmmmm.
I thought he was on auto pilot too, thats a good way to put it. My friend who went with me the second time thought he was absolutely fantastic and while I did like him better the second time, he still didn't win me over as "fantastic"
I know that Jenna and Aaron are staying on. so is romeylda as well. i was talking to jenna and she said she's staying on till she's too old to continue :) and aaron is a definte as well! aimee

The only ones that I would hate to see go are: Michael Arden, Natalie Joy Johnson, Kaitlin Hopkins, and Aaron Lohr. The rest of the Cast can be replaced by better talent and will help the show by doing so.

Don't forget Jenna Leigh Green who was one of the stellar highlights of the show. I've been listening to and loving the sampler CD here at work... Both Jenna and Michael sound phenomenal in my ever so humble opinion, so I'm definitely hoping to see them both back in September.
Yeah, I also found that John Hill seemed like he was on "auto-pilot." He was still enjoyable, but he was pretty much eclipsed by Michael Arden, who gave the most stellar performance, IMO. Michael is truly a find - he's young enough for the role, yet still possessing really refined acting and singing skills, plus he has irresistable stage presence.
Another reason to replace John Hill is an obvious one: he just looks too old for the part. It's kinda hard to buy him as a 17 year-old. And although he and Michael had great chemistry together onstage (it was an onstage romance I could actually believe and invest emotionally, which is a huge accomplishment), I couldn't help thinking that John looked like Michael's older brother or something.
Anyway, please no flames, I love BARE's entire cast and was completely blown away by their energy and talent. It's just that if I had to choose one person to possibly replace, it'd be poor John.

~ I had several convos with Jenna and she had commented that she loved working in the NYC theatre scene and hoped to do more there in the future.
~ John looks old?? Dud you SEE Aaron Lohr??? I admit I didn't enjoy him all that much, but that aside, HE looks OLD... NOT John.
~ Micheal Arden was incredible... he has been involved with the upcoming "Lestat" which is slated for 2005.. and reopening in Sept.. that MIGHT be a problem..
~ I saw in Romelda (Chantelle) Benjamin's bio that she did the previous staging of "Brooklyn" which is opening next season, so she may be already committed to THAT and not Bare. I did not discuss that with her..
Ok, I know it's been discussed before but since this is a BARE topic I though I'd cut in: How do the songs on the CD work in the show? I've heard them on Sh-K-Boom, loved them, got my CD sampler today but...I'm absolutely clueless as to how they fit in the plot. help
Who cares how old Aaron Lohr looks - he was the hottest guy in the show -with the hottest body - did you see him in those speedo's??? Plus he has one of the best voices in the show...my favorite song is the one he does with Peter...I think it's called -Are You There. Their voices complimented each other beautifully.

well, straight from the horse's mouth (i.e. a cast member): word is that many revisions are being planned. ONe major shift is changing Sister Chantelle into an actual nun this time. They're also creating entirely new songs for her. That in itself could be the reason Romelda won't be around. Or the Brooklyn thing... I also was under the impression that several of the actors (this backs up whoever brought it up) are looking for other projects as opposed to sticking out the summer.
Yes, Are You There was a GREAT munber.. I listen to it over and over.
AS for Romelda... "Brooklyn' is in her prgram bio.. which they did before the run started.... and the impending changes were decided on during this run as I was told.... wo I think Brooklyn would be the more logical reason. (shrug)
Yeah, I got a ton of info from several of the cast members and show staff members as well.
Straight from the horse's mouth: at the last show, someone I know asked Michael Arden if he's staying with BARE in September, and he said yes. This is great news, of course, because it means that if and when there's a full cast recording of BARE, his voice will be forever immortalized on CD. =-)
I know he was involved with Vampire Lestat (and OMG, I would have killed to see him as Louis!), but it was just a workshop, and you know how things change.
What's the point of making Sister Chantelle a nun? I'm not opposed to the change, I'm just wondering what difference it will make. I kinda like her as she is.
