Posted: 10/13/10 at 12:10amDidn't realize it was opening so soon. I saw both it and A Life In the Theatre this weekend not thinking that I was catching them both right before opening. I wonder what kind of reviews it will get. Did it get good reviews at the Public?

Via the show's website, these are some pull quotes from the reviews received during the run at The Pub:
"BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON PUTS THE HORMONES BACK INTO HISTORY! A KNOCKOUT!"
–Rolling Stone
"ROWDY, RAMBUCTIOUS & VERY FUNNY, WITH A PULSATING SCORE!"
–AP
"90 THOROUGHLY AUDACIOUS, POLITICALLY SAVVY, POLITICALLY INCORRECT MINUTES!"
-Newsday
"A ROUSING HISTORICAL SPECTACLE! A SHOW OF AND FOR OUR TIMES!"
–Bloomberg News
"RAUCOUS! An INFECTIOUSLY IRONIC, power chord-driven portrait of our 7th president as guitar hero and heartthrob!"
-Vogue
"FIVE STARS! UNDENIABLE FUN!"
–Time Out NY
"GRADE: A! A MASTERPIECE!"
–Entertainment Weekly
"A BLOODY GOOD SHOW! HILARIOUSLY SATIRICAL. ROCK ON, MR. PRESIDENT!"
–amNY

Well of course the pull quotes are going to be good.
Doesn't necessarily mean the overall reviews were. I don't remember off-hand, I didn't really care, just saying.

Posted: 10/13/10 at 2:12amIt had a B+ on StageGrade, with most of the major reviewers giving it a positive notice. I think the major dissenter was the Village Voice.

Posted: 10/13/10 at 9:43pmWow- that Talkin Broadway review is so muddled and poorly written. What is it talking about?? Positive or negative? It spent like half the time talking about how the lead actor physically appeared.

Just when we thought that the Word of Mouth Panel couldn't get any worse. http://www.broadway.com/shows/bloody-bloody-andrew-jackson/video/153293/word-of-mouth-review-bloody-bloody-andrew-jackson/
"I really like that song about the ten indians that was 20 minutes long. It was hysterical."

Posted: 10/13/10 at 10:57pmI think Brantley liked it. I can't wait to see this show when I come to NYC!!!

Posted: 10/14/10 at 9:37amSo much of what I've read this morning seems to be from people who just want to suckle B Walker's tits (most of all Brantley, who seems to have sent Walker the key to his apartment, and is waiting, tail up).

Posted: 10/14/10 at 11:02amBrantley is very positive. Not an all out rave, but he definitely liked it. Seeing this Saturday. Really looking forward to it!

True, and it's as old as the theatre. Remember Hugh Jackman's Tony?

Interestingly enough, TheaterMania thinks it lost some of its appeal from the Public while the Post seems to think it gained that extra "something" from the move, and gives it ***1/2 out of ****.

Posted: 10/14/10 at 11:59pmOn Broadway it got good reviews to solid reviews even from Terry from WSJ and that is saying something it is just amazing that it will not win the tony for the public due to its lack of commercial value . But do see it it is apparently amazing. I will go as far to say this is the best show on Broadway right now

Who can blame him?

on my next trip to nyc i'm only going to see BBAJ too learn how a good idea goes from
bad to worse. too bad the material seems a little dated now. Ben B. from NYT's had to give it a decent review due to his RAVE review from the public.

No, he didn't.
The material isn't dated at all- if anything, it works extremely well with burgeoning Tea Party right now.

What are on earth are you talking about? Populism is all politics seems to be nowadays.
