Do we think the producers asked him to do this in a effort to keep the show afloat?

Last night? Its possible. But I was there last night, 3 rows ahead of him. Dude was sobbing during curtain call. At the end of playing Nancy he yelled out "WOW!". I do think tonight was his decision. Maybe he went in not expecting much - as many do - and wanted to see it again to take it all in proper - that's what I did, and he IS phil, so I can only imagine what it meant to him.

Personally I found the show to be just fine, I obviously understand his need to see it twice, i guess so soon but Spring...you saw it 2 nights in a row?

I actually just laughed out loud. Bill is the best.

It's a very Bill move. Just adds to his legend
Or, as Phil would say, "my quirkiness is legend"

This is really nice. I hope this helps the show stay afloat, I love the recording and the cast is great (Not going to say it's the best, I really don't want more discourse).

Whoops, bad wording. I meant I felt a need to go back as soon as possible. I assume he's only in NYC for so long, so two days in a row makes sense to me. Though I did go twice in one week, sure. ¯\_(?)_/¯

I mean, I've seen the show twice as well. Granted with months in between, but still. I really enjoyed it.

The New York Times is tweeting about it (and from its main account, not even its small Theater one). Really hoping this brings the show some buzz. It's the best.

This is great! Any way to get good publicity out on this show is a plus. IMHO it deserves a much longer run than many people are predicting it will get.
The movie is brilliant and has to rank among the top comedies I've ever seen. To see Bill (who I'm sure has quite particular taste) embrace the show like he has is phenomenal for Warchus, Minchin, Karl and company. That cast works their butts off every night.

Unrelated Bill Murray Fact: Bill doesn't have an agent. He has an 800 number you can call and pitch your movie to.
It's unrelated to Groundhog Day, I just think Bill Murray is the coolest.

It got national coverage. GMA covered the story of his repeat.

I hope it does but don't see how him attending a show twice is going to really help the box office that much. Is it really that big a deal to see star of a movie which the show was based on to go see it even twice?

^Only that it got it noticed more: as I said Good Morning America covered it....that he went twice, and then discussed his sobbing the first time. ANYTHING that put a show in the front of a ticket buyers mind is helpful.

I would say once isn't unusual, but I've never heard of a celebrity turning around and going right back the next night. IMO that does make quite the statement.

Understood. I was just wondering how much this could help and don't think it is enough for it to prevent this show from probably closing in September like "Bandstand".

Oh, I agree, I doubt it's "enough".
I didn't love the show, but I think it deserved a better/longer run. (I think of what I've heard about Wonka, for example.)

This is Bill Murray (lol) and him doing it makes sense because it is kind of the theme of "Groundhog Day" of repeating the same thing day after day.

I have tickets for GHD Labor Day weekend so hope it lasts - lol.

You'll be fine....although I can't make that same comment to anyone holding tickets later than that.

I agree that anything that puts the musical out there to the masses that might not even know about it is a good thing.
More importantly, it's letting people know that the musical is more than just a comedy or the movie on stage. Hopefully, that will make those who have written off, give it a chance.
I would love it if this somehow helps them survive longer, though I know it's highly unlikely.

It was actually quite a starry night at GHD last night. In addition to Bill Murray being there again, Jackie Hoffman was there on C& the CF's night off as well as other members of that show's cast. And at intermission I passed a guy who looked so familiar to me,(mid 40s, salt and pepper hair, very handsome). Later I figured out it was Jim Acosta from CNN. He was there with his boys in the front row.
