It's a total Americanish Idol belt! What ever happened to beautiful singing! My God, the CD is just awful.
I saw it for the first time last night, and to my complete suprise I loved it! I think the score is fabulous- the lyrics are amazing. The costumes and sets are wonderfully creative. I think the reason people are flocking to shows like "Wicked" instead of shows like "Brooklyn," is because this show asks you to think; whereas, "Wicked" hands you everything, and is therefore mindless.
well- i mildly enjoyed both but think that none of those two shows ask you to think too much
it was kinda boring in my point of view...i think a bway show needs to have a big ensemble...bklyn has only 5 people singing a stupid story...my opinion...ok?
Brooklyn does ask you to think because you have to look beyond the fact that it is just these people putting on a "fairy tale." You have to think about what message they are trying to convey.
I do think this show is close to brillant. I bought the CD during the Christmas season because a friend of mine commented I should do so. When I went to New York a couple weeks later I made sure to see BKLYN while I was there. I will say it wasn't the best out of the four shows (Rent, Avenue Q, BKLYN, and Wicked), I saw that week, but it was absolutely brillant. Vocally it was the best show I saw, and that includes seeing Idina in Wicked. The most impressive part in my mind was that all five of them were just amazing singers. Eden Espinosa in my opinion gave the best performance on stage I've ever seen, and that's including theater, concerts, and TV. Her performance of "Once Upon a Time" gave me chills and tears to my eyes. Some here have called it screaming, but that's not even close. It's just amazing. The plot is incredibly moving as well. You'd have to see it to understand why, but it really is. Anyway, I think it's definitely a brillant show that definitely deserves a lot more kudos than it's been getting.
Its a good show music wise i think. Its not a show i think i'd want to do in the future or anything. But La Vie is right the women are amazing.
It's not a bad show, but it's not my favorite. I think that [from what I have seen and heard] I wouldn't like Brooklyn as one of my top 20 even. I think my favorite show that came out this year would be Little Women. Brooklyn it's my type of show, but some of the singers are pretty talented.

I loved it, and i wasnt sure i would. the plot is so simple yet it (should) bring out the childhood in everyone. Its a fairy tale. The score is wonderful I think, the lyrics are a little "young" but that's what makes it so much fun. The cast is amazing as well, as is the direction. The audience loved it too.
I'm seeing it in february, and from what I have heard, the only part of the show that is, um...lacking, is the storyline...but i mean with an awesome set, awesome costumes, and talented performers...im really excited!
And I love eden, b/c she was my first elphaba!
