Ok, So I saw the show at the Bushnell last night. It was fabtabulous. I just wanted to say that even if your not a fan of the show, to hear this cast put so much heart and soul into this show was amazing. Now, I’m not saying this just because I want to marry her but, Diana was amazing. Listen to her sing Once upon a time and Street singer blew EVERYONE away. Amazing. And that brings me to Cleavant. That man puts every ounce of his heart in that show. They never missed a beat....except Melba Moore. I hope she was only having a bad night. She missed an entrance, stumbled TO MANY lines. Started singing to soon at one part (threw off the orchestra) and was just interesting all around. Amazing voice though. Raven was sung so elegantly and let her emotions go. The show over all was amazing. And the cast was SOO kind at the stage door. I talked with Diana for a few minutes as well as Lee Morgan. It was a great night.

I'm so glad to hear Cleavant is doing the tour. He carried the show beautifully on Broadway. He has a commanding stage presence and a gorgeous voice. I'd actually be interested in seeing the touring cast, just to see Diana. She kicked ass in Hairspray. I'd love to see Cleavant as The Leading Player in a revival of Pippin.

I'm so happy for Cleavant. He was Streetsinger when I saw it on Broadway, and he was amazing. He deserves all the praise.

Apparently there is a huge Brooklyn fan gathering , yes the same bunch from Broadway last year, heading to Hartford on the 24th. Should be a blast.

Very glad to hear you enjoyed the show. Diana really delivers, doesn't she? Very sorry to hear that Melba's not getting any better - I thought it was just a first week thing. Apparently not. I loved Cleavant, too! I'm sure he'll keep wowing audiences...

The five "amazings" are one thing, JSousa, but that "fantabulous" would lead most astute readers to the conclusion that you ain't about to be marrying nobody named "Diana," mmmkay?

You are so lucky to be able to see it so much. You'll have to let us know if any mishaps or funny things happen, as you've seen it so much!

Man. Why don't the tours make a stop in NYC? What are we supposed to do if we want to see Diana in Brooklyn? Huh? *sigh*

Take a cheap and surprisingly short bus ride to Hartford? That way you could maybe see a mishap.

I saw the show on 6/20. I felt the same way as JSousa. Thought Diana's upper range was AMAZING. Sometimes her lower range gets lost but I enjoyed her, nonetheless. The only wesk link was Melba Moore. Was hoping she would be good but she didn't deliver.

Could someone please describe to me where the stage door is at the Bushnell? I'm seeing Brooklyn tomorrow afternoon and would love to meet the cast afterward. Thanks!

Good luck. Please note that there are two stage doors (one on either side of the building).

Saw Brooklyn this afternoon and I have to say it was totally worth my trip to the Bushnell just to see Diana DeGarmo in this role. She was fabulous. We all know she is an incredible singer, but who knew she could act??? I loved her in Hairspray and she proved in Brooklyn that she can carry a show.

The show itself? Well, Brooklyn has a very weak book and only a few of the songs are standouts. Upon second viewing (saw it on 8/23/04 in NY), I realize that it is not a very good show. I did enjoy the performances, some of the costumes (the one with the black garbage bags, the "do not cross" police lines and the bubble wrap shawl is awesome) and some of the songs. I would say, if you're in the area, that it is worth seeing just for Diana's performance.

Cleavant Derricks was great as usual, in the role he originated and Lee Morgan and Julie Reiber were fine in their respective roles. I must have seen Melba Moore on a good day becuase I thought she was fine. I had heard a bunch of horrible things about her performance, but I thought she did a good job. I only noticed two flubbed lines on her part (which she caught and fixed immediately) and "Raven" was excellent. The Hartford audience seemed to enjoy the show as a whole.

At the stage door, there were tons of teenage girls from the Diana DeGarmo fan club there. Diana was extremely nice to all her fans, signing autographs and taking pictures. I also got to meet Cleavant Derricks and Melba Moore, both were very gracious as well. I must say that Melba looks great for age 60!

Overall, a fun day for a road trip and time well spent.

I heard they took out one of the songs from the Broadway production, do you know which one?

WithoutaTrace, glad to hear you had such a good time. It must have been fun to compete with all the teenies at the stage door. Did you get any opportunity to talk with Diana yourself? I'd love to see Diana in a non-musical production to get a better sense of her acting skills when she doesn't have singing to fall back on but I suspect she'd pass that test with flying colors. You aren't the first person to express surprise at her acting.

Yes, I spoke to her briefly, got her autograph and told her that she was fantastic as Brooklyn. I also told her that I was fortunate enough to see her in Hairspray and that I came to Hartford from NYC just to see her in this show. She was very appreciative and very gracious. A class act.

I waited for most of the teenage girls to finish gawking over her before I went up to her. Diana's mom was there as well...I recognized her from TV.

What a fun day! re: BKLYN Tour in hartford CT 6/21
