Hehe so glad! I have a 8x10 of the whole tour cast and would love them all to sign. I do not know much about purlie I am afraid, all I know is Melba is linked to it.

I just heard a clip of Diana singing "Once Upon a Time."

Wow.

They lowered the keys for her, but it was still breathtaking.

I just caught the sat night show and loved it. I though the whole cast were fantastic and diana sang beautifully, I had always wanted to see the show when it was in NYC so I am so glad we got to catch in here.

I also saw the show this afternoon. Others have expressed my sentiments already. The cast alone makes it worth it. Diana was fantastic. I hope to see her in something worthy of her talents in the future, because this wasn't it.

Diana was such a sweetheart at the stage door that I almost have to feel bad for her. She handled it all with a smile but the group of hardcore fans that was gathered acted pretty obnoxious and entitled. I can excuse the teenagers amongst them but there were middle aged women acting just as badly. I hope Diana doesn't have to put up with that gaggle often. It was nice to meet her but her fans were a real turn off.

Why would they lower the key for Diana? She sang soprano in West Side Story.

That is such a shame that some of the fans were overzealous. Glad you enjoyed the cast!

I'm glad you didn't allow the actions of a couple fans ruin your appreciation for the cast's performance. Sounds like you aren't wild about the show itself though.

Yes, I also noticed that the key was lowered for "Once Upon A Time." It was also lowered for "Raven." Every other song (as far as I could tell) was in the original key.

Thanks for the reviews, everyone. The Site That Shall Not Be Named has audio of a bunch of the songs. Diana is phenomenal.

I've been checking that site for weeks now, I'm glad something finally showed up. Saw Brooklyn three or four times when it was in NY, and I saw Diana three times in Hairspray.

When the guilty obsessions combined, how could I not want in on it?

I hope something goes up of Melba Moore. With all the negative talk, you'd think someone would just put up the damned "Raven" already and let us judge for ourselves.

How much longer is the show in CT, and does anyone have plans to attend?

To be fair, it doesn't seem like anyone has questioned Melba's singing ability, as much as her acting and whatnot.

It's great that everyone's enjoying it! I'm seeing it in August in San Jose and from what you all are saying, it sounds like it will be wonderful!

I was at the Sunday matinee and the show was fantastic.

Cleavant was born to play the part of Streetsinger. He is defiantly “The Magic Man”

Lee was terrific. His voice just gets you into his character of a tragic nam vet.

Julie is wonderful. I just wish that she had more of a singing role. I love her voice.

Melba I really enjoyed her performance. I thought she did a great job as Paradice. There no question that she still can sing and she had no problem with the difficult lyrics of “Superlover” and “Love Me Where I Live”. Melba’s rendition of “Raven” was outstanding.

Now, I’ve saved the best for last.

Diana’s voice is unbelievable. Her version of “Once Upon A Time” is breathtaking. Diana and Cleavant where fantastic in “Streetsinger”. There was a real connection between them. Diana has received some criticism about her lower register but I believe she has put these criticisms to rest once and for all with her beautiful heartfelt interpretation of “I Never Knew His Name”. Diana’s acting abilities has made her a credible theatrical actress and, I’m sure, would have a long career in legitimate theater is she so chooses.

I missed my chance to see Diana after the show but I did get to meet her when she was in “Hairspray”. Diana is very charming with an infectious laugh. I did get a chance to see Cleavant, Lee, and Julie at the stage door. They are also very pleasant and very easy to talk to. I hope that the people that will see the show in Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, and San Jose will be able to feel the magic of these wonderful performers.
