I like Jackson, but I don't associate him with the rock star quality the role needs.
I'd go with Groff, Stark Sands, Creel, Tveit, John Gallgher Jr, Neil Patrick Harris, Hunter Parrish, etc before Cheyenne.
I actually love the idea of NPH as Jackson. Even if I did adore Ben Walker and hope that he's able to stick with the show.
I adore NPH, but I admit that I can't really see him in the role, either. I don't know -- there's something very specific that Ben Walker brought to it and that the role requires, and it's hard for me to quite pinpoint it. It's not that Ben's irreplaceable, just that there's a specific type the part needs. There's a fearlessness in Ben's comedy in the role: he spends the entire show simultaneously being enamored with himself and absolutely making fun of himself. Actually, saying it like that, that is a quality that NPH has in abundance. (I mean, look at HIMYM.) I think I just don't seem him in the role vocally. Of all the names I've seen batted around, NPH is the least self-conscious as a comedic actor. But who knows, maybe the others just haven't gotten a chance to stretch in that direction. But the role really requires a lack of self-consciousness in order to embrace the ridiculousness of it all.

See, I quite like all of those actors- but, with the exception of NPH, I just don't see any of them in the role. They're all young, talented, and good looking, but don't have that quirkiness that Ben Walker has that made his portrayal work so well.
you guys are going for voices not characters. This show needs a character to care about.
...before some of you hand me my ass in criticism some of those listed had great characters in performances before such as Stark and JGJ.

Interesting. If this is true, Ben might be available to transfer with the show.

Why not think out of the (Broadway) box for a replacement...There's Adam Lambert, Jon Bon Jovi, Mark 'Capeman' Anthony and any number of rockers with an edge.
fm711, the role of Andrew Jackson requires someone who can actually act. Just being a "rocker with an edge" doesn't cut it.
Besides, Marc Anthony doesn't fit the role at all, Bon Jovi is too old, and Adam Lambert, ew.
It says that Walker was deemed too old to play the role- but that makes no sense, since he's younger than both James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.
It doesn't really matter if he's younger than them. The point is whether he can pass for a high schooler. (I would say he looks pretty significantly older than that.)
Well, Michael Fassbender (sexy as he is) looks every one of his 33 years as well.
Yes, but I doubt they are looking at Magneto and Xavier in high school. The age difference between them and the first X-Men class is significant. They're not the same generation.
Am I the only one that kinda liked the Adam Lambert idea? It is a satire show anyway.

^Yeah... I'd like to say he'd be perfect... And he might be... and he would sell a ****-load of tickets... but then again he said he'd never do theatre again... but I'd see him in it regardless... :)
for me he could help make the music much more than it was and certainly memorable.
