So. Addison will play the Oboe and Wilson will play the Alto Clarinet....
I just yayed out loud. My excitement is incapable of being accurately expressed. (And I'm psyched to see MMC on board, too!)
ETA: It says The Public hasn't officially announced these dates yet, but I guess this is close enough. Ahhh.
omfgyay.
If it transfers in the Spring, I am sure the score will stronger than the other nominated scores. Imagine Sondheim winning another Best Score Tony a year after he won his Lifetime Achievement Tony.
I also have this fantasy of THE VISIT and BOUNCE both transferring.
Wow this is really exciting! It's finally happening...unfortunatly it looks like Bernadette will not be attached to it (per her touring schedule).
I still want to know if they're using instruments or not. Does anyone have the casting notice? It would have to say on there.

YES!!
Looks like I need to plan a trip into the city, YAY!
I doubt they will be using the instruments. With the announcement of MMC. Does that mean she will be the new orchestrator? The Tunick orchestrations are pretty sensational.
All I can say is, I hope it is entirely different from the Goodman production I saw. No doubt Sondheim worshipers will love it unconditionally. I'm really afraid objective opinions about the Public production will be few and far between.
Sondheim freak here and lets not mince words: The score is not good. For Sondheim or anyone.
"I also have this fantasy of THE VISIT and BOUNCE both transferring."
I get all giddy inside when I think about that.
It says she's signed on as musical director. It doesn't say anything about orchestrations, specifically, but it's hard to tell if that's concrete proof that she's only musical directing and not orchestrating. Of course, if they're using actor-musicians, they would need to re-do the orchestrations. So far the press releases have been really sparing with their information in that regard.
The score is not the best by Sondheim's standards. But it so much better than the sh*t we're forced to hear these days on Broadway. And obviously Sondheim and Weidman have reworked the score and book.

Amen, Matt.
And Gypsy, would Bernadette Peters be playing Mama? She is a tad too old for the other female role whose name escapes me at the moment.

Amen, I'll take any Sondheim any day.
But it so much better than the sh*t we're forced to hear these days on Broadway.
Not what I saw. An energetic and entertaining show with an allegedly inferior score is far more preferable to me than a weak Sondheim score dragged through an excruciatingly dull show, especially at Broadway prices.
And no one is forcing anyone to hear anything on Broadway. You either buy a ticket or you don't. It's a choice.
I am pretty sure Bernadette Peters never intended to play the actual production. The reading was her first job after her husband passed away, and I believe she did it both as a favor to Sondheim and as a way to get her feet a little wet with stage work.
Can they please get Victor Garber again? Please? Okay, I know it's not happening but let a boy dream.
I believe so. The song she sang at her recent Avery Fisher Hall concert (the name escapes me) was written for that character.
According to the Playbill article, BOUNCE will not use the actors-as-musicians concept.
Both productions had actors also doubling as musicians. This is not to be the case for Bounce.
I'm looking forward to it! More Sondheim is always good!
I do hope a good portion of the score was reworked. Hopefully the equivalent of how much MERRILY was reworked post Broadway. Replaced songs, new music & lyrics, etc.
ps ^ Phew about not being the actor/musician concept. Maybe there's still a chance for the Tunick orchestrations now.

I had the absolute privilige of house managing the workshop at the Public back in 06. I enjoyed the show a lot and judging from the changes I noticed from the recording, they were almost all for the better. I'm very excited about this. I no longer work there but I was tempted to talk to my former boss to see if I could come back for this show!
This could possibly be great. Will anyone from the recording be back attached to this?
Wow, I'm such an idiot. I read it so fast that I completely missed that part.
I was over-excited.
I'm probably one of the few people who would have LOVED to see Doyle do another Sondheim show with the instruments, but I'm equally happy to see what he'll do without them.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
I like the score a lot: I don't think it's Sondheim's best, but how could it be at his age?
Considering score changes: as long as they got rid of that awful number "What's Your Rush?", I'll be happy.
