re: breaking news: a chorus line returns to broadway 2006

I am humongously excited for this. I have been wishing for a revival ever since I first started listening to it, which was over 2 years ago, and have kicked myself continuously for being born much later than would have been possible to see it and really take it all in.

Anyway, as for the dated aspect of the show, there are some, but I don't think it's what you guys have been talking about. The only parts of the show that seem dated to me are things like "Robert Goulet, Robert Goulet, my god Robert Goulet!" During The Montage, there are a lot of pop culture references that mostly go over my head (Steve McQueen? Hell, I barely know what Peyton's Place is), but that's the only thing I can think of that seems less than utterly timeless.

I am ecstatic.

An act of desperation by a dinosaur Broadway lumbering to its creatively tapped-out death, producing the same handful of classic plays and musicals over and over and over again.
The end is near.

This is now the offical CHORUS CASTING thread. We must cast this thing before they start putting Audra and Kristen in it.

My suggestions:

Nancy Leminger Cassie
Natascha Diaz Morales

I suggest no casting speculation except for Cassie and Zach and maybe not Zach. It would be so great if there is nobody anybody has ever heard of. And yes, that means three-named chorus boys whose pictures BG2 has only seen on the Hairspray website but with whose work he implies great familiarity.

What theatre will it play? Can't go back to the Shubert, SPAMALOT will be there, most likely...
And if she'll say, "My darling, I'm yours!" I'll throw away my striped tie and my best pressed tweed, all I really need is the girl...

It's 21 months until the opening -- half the shows open now will have closed by then. There's absolutely no way to predict now what theatres will be available almost two years into the future.

re: breaking news: a chorus line returns to broadway 2006

Not to shed a curtain over all this optimism....but since the halcyon days ACL, the backstage chorus kid story has been told over and over again through "Fame" another vehicles and the mid70's has little nostalgic appeal. Point being, without some updating and serious tweaking of the book, a contemporary version of "A Chorus Line" contains a lot of material that is dated and very "whiney".
