Can someone give me a quick plot summary of this? I kinda know what its about, but not really..

In a nutshell.....Brooklyn's Mother dies and she goes in search of her Father. Brooklyn is born overseas and of course her father doesn't know about her. She was named Brooklyn because that is where he is from. (If memory serves me correctly. It's been over a year since I saw the show!). She comes to NYC and becomes a huge singing star and ends up in a singing battle with a Diana Ross type superstar at what we believe to be Madison Square Garden. I won't tell the end.
And I do hope the audience participation thing works in NYC. In Denver, it just seemed to break the flow of the show.

Also....everyone is waiting to see Eden Espinoza...but Karen Olivo was excellent also. The entire cast was good. The only person from the original Denver cast that is not in the B'way cast is Lee Morgan (The father) who is being played by Kevin Anderson on B'way.

Haven't got tickets yet but plan to soon; that is, as soon as I can figure out when I can get up to NY for the weekend this fall.
Whoever said Karen Olivo was excellent- I agree. While I have not seen her in Brooklyn, I did see her in Children of Eden in April and in June and she was one of the highlights of the show (the book is another story- but we won't go there).

This production marks the Broadway debut for the writing collaboration of Mark Schoenfeld and Barri McPherson. Mark first met Barri in 1982 upon hearing her sing at a cabaret and hired her to record some of his music. Shortly thereafter, Barri moved to Massachusetts to raise a family. Years later, in 1991, Barri returned to New York to perform at a private-party gig. She involuntarily stopped at a remote street corner in Brooklyn Heights after hearing the sound of a voice she vaguely recognized. She discovered that Mark had become a homeless street performer, getting by on $40 a day. Barri invited Mark back to Massachusetts to stay with her husband and two children. Mark repaid Barri by developing music with and for her and soon, the street poet and cabaret singer had the skeleton of a most unusual new musical

Uh, Matt_G, since this is the first show Eden's ever opened on Bway - what "all the other shows" are you referring to...? Also, if you followed her work that closely, you'd know that she never misses a performance (and has even stepped in for Idina @ intermission on no notice whatsoever). She is the pinnacle of professionalism. Check your sources (and perhaps your senses) before you post BS like that...

Thirdrowcenter...It is an amazing show. It's better than anything that has been written on these boards and better than any words could convey. I'm certain that you will be blown away at the music, the voices, and the emotion in this show. More than any other musical I've ever seen, I laughed the loudest, cried the most (yes, tears were shed), and reflected the most on the story and the characters. This show is unreal and unlike anything else you've ever seen.

Hey Wickedfan2...I was able to see the show 7 times while it was in Denver last summer. It was really cool...was able to meet John McDaniel and Jeff Calhoun while it was here. It should be interesting to see the changes between then and now.
Sounds like you got awesome tickets...you're gonna love it. I have to wait until 11/4 and 11/6 to see it again.
