I get a kick out of people like John Lloyd Young who say they are listening to themselves. So self-absorbed and predictable.

I got a 160 gb iPod in 2008 and thought I would never fill it, but fill it I did. Everything from 40's, 50's, 60's band music and singers to a lot of world music and everything in-between except almost no rap or hip-hop unless they are part of a movie soundtrack. I have almost 12,000 tracks from Broadway, movies and television, a lot of jazz, pop, rock and a fair amount of classical. I have a holiday playlist of 1,000 tracks that I load only in Nov. and Dec. In total, I am at 42,000 tracks and only have 1 gb of free space. I almost always have it playing in random mode so I never know what's coming next. And I need to get the OBC's from the musicals I saw in May loaded. Those are How to Succeed, Anything Goes, Book of Mormon (already have that one), Catch Me If You Can and Priscilla. I'm hoping that Follies gets recorded (I saw that in DC) and can add that to all the other versions I have. I will probably off-load some classical if I fill it up. Needless to say, I love my i-Pod! :)

Last 10 songs played:

Bob Marley, Bend Down Low from B Is For Bob
Dionne Warwick, As Long As He Needs Me from Greatest Hits
Original Movie Soundtrack, Colorado, My Home from The Unsinkable Molly Brown
Original Movie Soundtrack, Introduction from 9 (Danny Elfman, composer)
Glen Campbell, Lonesome Jailhouse Blues from A Satisfied Mind
Doris Day, Sometimes I'm Happy from Day Dreams
The Doobie Brothers, Minute By Minute from Minute By Minute
Black Box, Open Your Eyes (Mirko's Mix) from Mixed Up!
Ella Fitzgerald, I'm Putting All My Eggs In One Basket from The Irving Berlin Songbook
Original Broadway Cast, Somewhere from West Side Story

I love Anita Gillette working out to Black Eyed Peas. =)

This summer has been all about Animal Collective, Panda Bear, Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, and Cut Copy. I can't stop listening to the former's EP "Fall Be Kind." Cast recording's include: Book of Mormon, House of Flowers, Next to Normal, Spring Awakening, Company, A Little Night Music, Isabel's a Jezebel, and The Rocky Horror Show in a number of languages.

I am obsessed with Queen's "I Want To Break Free" and Blanc Mange's "The Day Before You Came." ABBA's cover of the latter is on You Tube and it's lovely.

I have a mix CD for my workouts that gets used more than anything else. But beyond that, in no particular order:

-- the complete works of the Rankin Family
-- about half of Sting's albums
-- Price in TURANDOT
-- Peter Gabriel's SECRET WORLD LIVE
-- the Smithsonian production of STRIKE UP THE BAND
-- everything by Michael Buble
-- the Philharmonic's CANDIDE
-- a French production of MAGIC FLUTE
-- three or four Cirque de Soleil albums
-- and a whole bunch of mindless dance music mixed with a whole lot of classical stuff

I love reading what everyone is listening to and getting inspired by!

My summer playlist has included:
"Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown" cast recording on repeat
Donna Murphy's "Losing My Mind"
Sara Ramirez' cover of "The Story" and "Break My Heart"
"Born This Way" (corny, I know, but it's just sooo catchy)
And Adele's whole album as well

And TwinBelters, not to be picky, but "The Day Before You Came" was an ABBA song first, it's the other band who covered it. It's one of my favorites!

Really not trying to be snarky ---
But two things I really hate here:

1) For a "Book of Mormon" cast member to say they are listening to their own album is just kind of tacky and strange.

and 2) I cannot stand when people say things like: "New York, New York" BY FRANK SINATRA .... No - it is BY Kander and Ebb. Lots of these people make this mistake on here, and these are people who should know better! Drives me crazy. Yes, there are great singer-songwriters who sing AND write... But not all.

Sorry, just a pet peeve.

This summer, I resolved to listen to one or two full albums a week and attempt to expose myself to some new musicals. Some of the shows I've listened to this summer include:

-PRISCILLA
-WOMEN ON THE VERGE
-CATCH ME IF YOU CAN
-BOOK OF MORMON
-DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS
-HOW TO SUCCEED...
-PROMISES, PROMISES
-YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN

I'm currently seeking out TABOO and the 2003 revival of NINE for my next albums (to my iPod).

Good to know! My partner shared this with me, but through the Blanc Mange version. He said it was their song, but Agnetha was in the music video. Somehow he came across the ABBA version and alleged they covered Blanc Mange. I will have to correct him.

The way Agnetha brings out that rich melody, and the Swedish folk song chord progression so typical of ABBA, made me question if it was a Blanc Mange homage to ABBA or what.. something was off and I'm glad you chimed in.

Do you like The Knife? I think their song "Marble House" is like a lost ABBA song. They're Swedish too.

Now I have "Love Is A Stranger" by The Eurythmics on the brain.

30 lashes with the proverbial wet noodle for that ABBA/Blancmange mixup.:) First time I heard the Blancmange version, I thought it was a parody since it's so arch and has a little fun with a few of the lyrics.

Frida's high notes during the instrumental breaks are beautiful.

Thanks to you, guess what's playing on my MP3 player now...

Just an aside.. I just heard, for the first time in years, my favorite ABBA song "The Visitors". It will most likely go on my playlist.
