Bootlegs + Time = Historic Record
Exactly. Shakespeare's existing plays are all stolen bootlegs, not officially released copies of the script. Hence the variances.
Samantha reminds me of a young Lana Parilla in those clips.
LOVE that "Cell Block Tango".
(Great job on the costumes, Diva!)
Very mixed review from Variety.

Seems like Samantha Barks is this Hollywood Bowl musical's Nicole Scherzinger in Rent: more of a standout than a majority of the cast. Nevertheless, I'm sure the show is great for all fans of the show and the cast. :) I know I'd enjoy it!

I was at the show last night. It was pretty tight. All of the players were very good without being particularly distinctive or definitive. With the exception of Lucy Lawless who not only has a very VERY unpleasant upper vocal register...her acting was pretty sub par! Samantha Barks was in fine voice, but isn't much of a dancer, which is not really what one looks for in a Velma Kelly. And Ashlee Simpson completely earned her star performance among a cast of starrier names. She even had the requisite raspy Gwen/Reinking talking/singing voice! Great ensemble, the Cell Block Tango got cheers when announced, so the girls were amped up to give stellar readings. And Stephen Moyer has a surprisingly good crooner voice (that went flat a couple of times). Drew Carey was endearing and funny while still being somewhat amateurish as Amos. The Bowl is a wonderful venue, its always a pleasure to see something there. The two jumbo-trons help you register faces and are actually directed with different camera shots live-edited.
Hey Owen. I am glad you had a good time. I just wanted to correct you in something. It is a silly little thing.. but it might matter to a newcomer planning a visit to the Bowl. The Bowl has 4 High Def Jumbo Screens. Not two. It makes all the difference in the world to people sitting in the 3rd promenade and beyond.
I was also at the performance last night. I thouroughly enjoyed it and thought the cast was very strong. The audience was very hyped up and I think everyone on stage fed off the energy.
I thought Samantha Barks and Lucy Lawless were standouts. I was pleasantly surprised by Ashlee Simpson, having never seen any of her acting. Stephen Moyer was superb - I loved the little nod he gave to True Blood. as was Drew Carey.
It was definietly one of the better staged musicals at the Bowl. All in all, a nice evening under the stars in Hollywood.
What nod did he give to True Blood?

I'm trying to find info on the Hollywood Bowl website that credits Reinking for the choreography. I see from the video they used her work for All That Jazz. Was she credited in the program?
I thought the show was amazing. Sitting in the 1st row of section H, the HD screens were a God-sent. I felt everyone was in good form. To me it felt Carey's humor didn't carry well from were I was sitting. It kind of fell flat at times. And I agree, it seemed most of the direction and choreography was "borrowed" from the existing Broadway show. I looked through the program and didn't see any credit given to Reinking.

It's one thing when a random high school uses the Reinking choreography and posts it on youtube, but I would imagine that Hollywood Bowl DID somehow get her permission or paid her royalties even if she's not credited?

Nevermind, Queen Latifah needs to play Mama Morton!!!!
Yes Ann Reinking is credited in the program
It's one thing to say something, but to actually do something about it or enforce it is another.
I am simply pointing out the fact that I am, indeed, correct when I say it is not allowed.
It is also to show that the group posting the amateur videos of the production did not have permission to do so.
But the park doesn't have the video rights to the show....it would still be illegal.
Here's some of my pics from the show. It was pretty good.

Well, the people who work there- The Ushers themselves do absolutely nothing to stop anybody, not even people using flash. So I my be written, but it clearly is allowed because those who have to power to stop it do not- at all.
Oh fer craps sake, yes they do stop people. They stop as many as they can, but with 17,000 people in a huge venue, it's very difficult to stop them all.
But go ahead and continue to blather on, even after I've proven it to you.
And continue to pull out your flash cameras to prove what an idiot you are considering a flash doesn't work past 4 feet...
And then post them here for everyone to see.
Because it MUST be okay, right?!
You have proven nothing to me besides the fact that It says it's not allowed. I don't believe any of the ushers do anything to stop people because when I saw Hairspray I myself was sitting right next to were an usher was standing and I do mean right next. and he did nothing to stop me from using my camera to film at all. And you said so yourself that it is hard to stop 17,000 people from doing it- so if they single some people out, those people could argue the fact that they are being singled out when others around them are not. It may be a rule, but it's a rule that is not inforced- there is no arguing that.
Also, where in my post do I say that I use flash?? I said people were- Read carefully before you start calling people idiots for doing something that they were in fact no doing in the first place.
Now, of the major cast members, who amongst them would be a good addition to the Broadway cast? Whether they'd be interested in that is another story.
Lucy Lawless is actually jumping roles to Velma this Fall for a production in Auckland.
