Per the casting notice, Roundabout's revival of BYE BYE BIRDIE will begin previews on September 11 and is scheduled to close January 24, 2010.
There are 3 roles cast: Mr. MacAfee, Mrs. Peterson and Hugo. Let the speculation begin.

Hmmm...
...Needs more Alice Ripley.
Bill Irwin and Matt Doyle (who both participated in the last workshop) will be doing the full production as Mr. MacAfee and Hugo Peabody.
Didn't somone say here recently that the creative team wanted Jayne Houdyshell for Mae? Maybe they got her.
guess I'll be making a trip up on the 11th!
although, I'm wondering how busy/hectic that would be trying to get in and out of the city that weekend...
Matt Doyle as Hugo? What a waste of a great voice. A great singer in a non-singing role. Weird. Maybe he'll be in the ensemble occasionally?

I wonder if Annaleigh Ashford would be a good Kim, I can sort of picture it.
LOL
she is WAYYYYYYYY too old for Kim
She's younger than Matt Doyle.
well lets just hope neither of them are doing it... Kim is supposed to be 15... so she should at least appear around that age

Annaleigh is 22, but looks even younger.
she looks 18/19 I'll give her that, but she does not come off as the age necessary

Who are they going to get, Allie Trimm?
Actually that might work, she has a phenomenal voice, and will be turning 15 right around opening.

Victoria Clark as Mrs. McAfee?
Thanks.

Actually... when they picked Birdie, I said this in another thread. People disagreed, but I really do think she would do well and I can DEF see her as Kim.

If they cast someone as Hugo who is clearly older than 15 though and say Allie does play Kim the scenes will look very inappropriate.
and this is why they should cast someone who looks 15/16

Allie Trimm does NOT look 15/16. She'd be amazing in a couple years.

Well if Hugo is already cast who knows? I highly doubt they cast one of the former/current Broadway kids, or a kid at all.

Are you sure? Then she really looks a lot younger than she is!
There's also Ariana Grande... but she just signed a Nickelodeon contract.

I think that Matt Doyle would be a great Conrad...I think he would be underutilized as Hugo.
She was born in '85 and she graduated 2 years ago. All signs point to 24, haha.

Bye Bye Birdie at Roundabout? Mmmmm, let's see how they can mess this one up. How about Alan Cumming alternating with Nathan Lane as Hugo and Birdie? Keeping in the traditions of making changes for changes sake alone (a hallmark of Roundabout productions) Elaine Stritch could play Kim and Kristin Chenowith could play Mae. Mickey Rourke would be a knockout doing the Kids number. Sets could be minimal, with abstract configurations of Pluto (the dog, not the former planet) and Queen Elizabeth. And, to be budget conscious, a one-man zither accompaniment for the whole show. And don't forget to make it a revisal, not a revival, so the action could take place in male bordello in Weimar Berlin.

That was funny.
I can always count on WishingWounds if I ever need to do a WHERE ARE THEY NOW? for the cast of "13"
it's so thrilling.
