Posted: 1/30/14 at 9:28pmI truly believe that turning movies into musicals works better when the movie was only a minor success. This enables an audience with no prior knowledge to learn about it like it's the first time. This movie is iconic (my absolute favorite) with performances by actors who are now synonymous with their parts. I will see this with the hopes of it being good, but with the gut feeling that it doesn't stand a chance.

Posted: 1/31/14 at 2:22pmGod I have not heard Peggy Sue mentioned in years, I was doing a show in London at the time it opened and I remember talking to the cast a few times in the pub and many of them saying it was a flop before the critics came in. During my night off I get tickets and thought 'yep, they were right'

I think this has an awful lot of potential. I sure hope it lives up to it. I love this movie-and think the opportunities for a very DIVERSE (yes I capitalized this-because there are too many GENERIC scores out there) score. They could do 80s style music as well as 50s tunes. (And please, something where the songs aren't all meaningless ballads with lyrics that might as well have been written by a child.)
I hope they might get the rights to the famous 'theme song' when the car goes back in time (and returns). That one song might be what I'd get the rights to from the original property (although I could envision them trying for "Power of Love" which would be fine too). But, I think the theme of Marty seeing his parents when they were his age (heck, how many of us would like to see our parents when they were teenagers?) is a good one and the spectacle should be great. (Getting a real De Lorean is going to be a challenge-I don't know how many there are out there.) I think it could work. (There are a lot of 'ifs' here but I think it has a shot.)

Alan Silverstri is doing new music so I would guess they would be able to get the theme music, the Delorean I imagine like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang would be made for the show rather than use a real Delorean.

They will build their own and no one will be able to tell the difference. The technology the car will need is way beyond a car from the 1980s. Its not as if they are changing it to a ford focus.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

Would love to see Kyle Riabko do this. I loved him in his show What's It All About.
He is easy on the eyes and can play guitar.
