Lizzie??
WTF?
That was crazier than Mark Rylance's TONY speech.
Bwaybabe2, you can say that's enough, it's over, all you want but it ain't over.
And yes, people on probation get caught repeating their crimes all the time.

bwaybabe2: You don't really understand sex offenders, do you? Recidivism rates are pretty high, even within a 5 year period.
And I don't care that you like the show. I don't care that you seem to like Barbour. I don't care that isn't "fair" to the other cast members. You say that we can't judge Barbour negatively because we do not know the real facts, but you also keep insisting that we should judge him positively despite that same lack of knowledge. I am the one saying that perhaps the girl did ask for it, perhaps she was fine with it and now only wants money. But I am also saying that there is also a chance, and a good one at that, that this girl was groomed and coerced by a much older man who had a large amount of power over her.
But whether or not the girl is a vixen does not matter. In the eyes of the law, the sexual contact was done without consent, and is therefore a sexual offense. Barbour knew this and he still went through with it.
Also, yes, the producers have every right to cast Barbour. But they also have to expect that there will be repercussions for that decision. Just like Barbour has a right to work and his employers have a right to employ him, people have every right to complain and boycott shows in which he is performing.
Edit: Just found this lovely tibdit in NY law:
§ 130.40 Criminal sexual act in the third degree.
A person is guilty of criminal sexual act in the third degree when:
1. He or she engages in oral sexual conduct or anal sexual conduct with a person who is incapable of consent by reason of some factor other than being less than seventeen years old;
2. Being twenty-one years old or more, he or she engages in oral sexual conduct or anal sexual conduct with a person less than seventeen years old; or
3. He or she engages in oral sexual conduct or anal sexual conduct
with another person without such person's consent where such lack of consent is by reason of some factor other than incapacity to consent.
Criminal sexual act in the third degree is a class E felony.
Guess he should have gotten a felony charge.
This thread has gotten so "off topic" that it's not even funny ={
How is discussing the casting of James Barbour in a thread titled "Barbour, Lazar, Edelmann to star in TALE OF TWO CITIES" considered "off topic"?
The proper and mature thing would have been for Barbour to bow out of this production gracefully to "work on his personal issues" and save all the other people involved with this show the pain and embarrassment of having to deal with this issue. If the show suffers from him being in it, it will be nobody's fault but his own.

Ughhh, I'm rereading old articles; he only got Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
And he would have been put on the registry if he hadn't gotten out of the felony charge: http://www.criminaljustice.state.ny.us/nsor/sortab1.htm
Honestly, he's seriously lucky. In my state he would have been charged with a Class C felony.
Spork, don't you know that everything printed about this case is all lies and part of a huge "Get James" conspiracy instigated by people who are jealous of him? Get real.

So much to say... First I thought Barbour was awful in Jane Eyre. That said the songs I have heard from the show are boring and monotonous. They have been trying to drag this thing to Broadway for YEARS - it will land with a thud. Even though i'm sure the blue hairs in Sarasota loved it.
NOW on to the real topic at hand - he is child molester. Not a pedophile agreed, but a child molester non the less. He is a predator. Dateline did a WHOLE series about old men that prey on underage children and it was called "TO CATCH A PREDATOR." Just because the underage child wants to have sex or comes on you DOESN'T MATTER. He is a sexual predator, i think the prosecutor should have charged him with the felony he is guilty of. And heres another link from the Daily News which begins with a great line:
"Broadway "Beast" James Barbour was unmasked today as a liar - and a child molester. "
Daily News - Child Molester
I thought the Dateline series was extremely well done. I thought it was very informative and I remember them setting up a "meeting" between one of the online predators and a "teenage girl". But when the guy showed up it was the Dateline cameras waiting for him.
Also, I enjoyed Tale of Two Cities and I don't have blue hair.

I absolutely agree with this.

Now you've done it. You're going to be told that no one likes you.

MusicalComedyMan: I agree with most of what you said, but Barbour actually isn't a sexual predator. A sexual predator is a repeat offender with a psychological disorder.
I'm not sure if I would call him a child molester, either. We don't know enough about his typology. He may have a preference for adolescent females, but we don't know.
What I would call him, though, is a sexual offender.
This cast could not get better. Barbour, Lazar and the most talented Kevin Earley. My oh my.
"Barbour also admitted luring the victim to his apartment by promising to introduce her to theatrical producers - and then engaging in oral sex with her."
Yuck
yuck
Oops. Just saw it already was posted. Sorry. Still.. yuck.
Kevin Earley looks so good.
