Voice says: She would be NUTS (no pun intended)not to DO this
...They just signed Dustin Hoffman as Stiller's father!
NEW YORK - Barbra Streisand is reading the script for "Meet the Fockers," the sequel to 2000's "Meet the Parents," her husband, James Brolin, said in an interview on the syndicated "Access Hollywood" entertainment TV show.
"I know she is reading it," said Brolin, in an interview to air Monday. Excerpts were released in advance.
Streisand's participation as Ben Stiller (news)'s mother would mark a return to film for the 61-year-old singer-actress after an eight-year hiatus. She starred in 1996's "The Mirror Has Two Faces."
"Meet the Parents" starred Stiller as Greg Focker, Teri Polo (news) as Stiller's fiancee, and Robert De Niro (news) and Blythe Danner (news) as Polo's parents. They are slated to return for the sequel.

If she does this, it would be her smartest career move now. IF she is willing to let herself REALLY go - and be willing to get down-and-dirty and be seen in a less than pristine light. It's all very Dietrich in 'Destry'!
My big problem with the film is that I am physically repulsed by Ben Stiller.

Posted: 1/27/04 at 1:14pmI wouldn't be surprised either way on this one, but hope she's willing to let herself go and to do it... We shall see!

Posted: 1/27/04 at 1:15pmI totally agree. She'd have to be crazy in the movie. I don't know if she's willing to let herself go.

She would be a FOOL to turn this down....
If the script was Ok'd by DeNiro, Stiller and Hoffman, I think it's good enough for her....
Please let someone talk her into this....

Posted: 1/27/04 at 2:13pmOh who knows. I don't think it is a matter of "letting herself go." Maybe she just doesn't want to work? But I think it would be a fun thing to see her do.

Posted: 1/27/04 at 2:16pmOh and Deniro, Stiller, and Hoffman have Ok'd some pretty horrendous scripts in the past. But I do hope she does it. I would be there opening day. I am still recuperating from seeing her in the audience at the Taper.

Thank you for posting this even though I already mentioned it on this board 2 days ago. ![]()
"Oh and Deniro, Stiller, and Hoffman have Ok'd some pretty horrendous scripts in the past."
So has Barbra. Let's not forget that even though she has made herself well known in the industry as only choosing certain types of roles since 1982, she has been in some pretty crappy movies....and I love her to death; but come on! All Night Long? What was up with that?!

I'd like to see her do it.
But why Hoffman? Why not cast Stiller's real father, Jerry?

Posted: 1/27/04 at 8:23pmGood point, Quibbler. Hoffman is another one I aesthetically displeasing. Those itsy bitsy piglet eyes of his creep me out.

Posted: 1/27/04 at 8:29pmWe have all seen Ben Stiller's parents play his parents, right? Move on. I love Barbra a lot but have been really disappointed with her descent into cheesiness over the last several years. It would be great to see her accept a character role and be that funny kooky lady we all know she can be. She could be great in it. I hope if she does it, it's not just a cameo kind of thing. I want to see her do a movie that appeals to a lot of people and not just Barbra fans.

Posted: 1/27/04 at 8:45pmOoh, Streisand is so full of herself. Someone needs to smack some sense into that old bag's head. She's not that great for cryin' out loud. Despite what she thinks.

Posted: 1/27/04 at 9:27pmHow long does it take to read a script? I mean, even taking into account slow page turning due to very long nails.

Can you just hear Barbra telling Stiller:
"Umm..not bad...but I have some changes here..some notes.. yaknowhatimean.."
..and Ben going, "Thanks Barbra!..Someone get Goldie Hawn on the phone!"
Let's hope Barbra shuts the hell up and says YES!...

HAHAHAHAHA I can picture it.
Barbra's the one who keeps claiming that she wants to be in a movie that she does not direct, and direct a movie that she is not in....but will she actually do it?
I heard she's actually not that bad to work with. She just likes things to be the best they can be, and that can sometimes come off as her being picky and too demanding.
Blythe Danner has worked for her, but never had any scenes with her. I always wanted to see a movie where those two women actually acted with each other.

'How long does it take to read a script?'
She hasn't even cracked it open yet. She's waiting for the version that matches her roses.

robbiej, you crack me up!
But, yeah, I think it would be soooo hilarious if she'd let her hair down and get into this role.

She likes things to be the best they can be>.
Hello, DeNiro & Hoffman..two of the finest actors of her generation.
..Stiller, a big current star...
What else does she want?
"Meet the Fockers" on a gravestone to give her a sign...?

I just don't see barb doing this. I think its just for publicity and it will flop.
I can't wait for the movie and I'm sure with or without barb it will be great with whom ever they get as stiller's mom.

A friend who saw Barbra on the Globes said "she looked good but very uncomfortable at being photographed where she could not control the camera." Hmm.
If not Barbra, then how about Faye! Another great Mommie!!!
