They are talking about a post-Palace renovation. That's so far in the future that it is entirely pointless getting any hopes up.

Instead, if they get her as Glenn Close's replacement before Sunset closes...

Seconded. And then maybe after that she can take over when Bette is done, now that she's the right age for the part. Both of these would be excellent choices, far more suitable than her Gypsy film.

Why not just bring her concert tour in for an extend summer run? Or is she wanting to, uh, act?

I'll buy a couple tickets a week and force all my friends to watch it, if she comes back in a real show and not a concert. Even a halfway decent marketing campaign could easily bring in audiences.

You are such a bitter, hateful troll. An arena is obviously much, much larger than a Broadway theater.

She sold $46 million dollars worth of tickets last year, with only eleven concerts. Not bad for someone who can't sing.

Because she charges absurd prices for halfway decent seats!

thanks babe, Love that I'm a troll because you don't agree .. :))

Thanks, RippedMan. The idea that someone could have a successful arena tour but isn't popular enough to play the Palace is beyond asinine.

As I'm sure you know... playing 1-2 night arena shows in a different city every night is HIGHLY DIFFERENT than playing the same venue in the same city 7-8 times per week. Not saying she can't do it, but you simply cannot compare the two.

You're absolutely right, Greased. I just thought it was odd for someone to argue that you can't succeed in a 1700 seat venue if you can't fill a 18,000 seat venue.

I can state without equivocation that Ms. Streisand will never return to Broadway. As for the sniping about her age and Gypsy, why are all of you not bemoaning the fact that a 70 year old woman is playing a part written for much younger right now on the Great White Way?

We allow Canadians to perform on Broadway now.

"

Because a close-up on camera is far more unforgiving than than the 30+ foot distance between an actor on stage and the audience.

We've all seen the film version of Mame. We already know what it's like when someone who is decades too old for a role is cast in a film. We don't need to see the same mistake repeated.

Barbra does look her age, and I commend her for aging with grace and dignity. She has not gone under the knife to attain eternal youth. I believe it would be wise for her to stick to age appropriate roles when she does decide to return to the screen.

For the record, I would say the same thing of Glenn Close. While she may be an amazing Norma on stage, I'm not sure how well her performance would be received on the silver screen.

There have been multiple attempts over the years to get Streisand back to Broadway--either in a play/musical or a one-woman revue/concert. And despite some instances where it genuinely seemed like it might happen, all have been unsuccessful. Chiefly: she doesn't want to do eight shows a week, she doesn't want to commit to a long run, and she doesn't want to be in New York for an extended period of time.

I highly, highly doubt we will ever see her back on Broadway. If it does happen, it will probably be a very limited engagement (1-2 weeks) and probably an abbreviated performance schedule too.

Because, while Dolly may have been written for a younger woman, there is no real reason that Dolly needs to be any specific age at all. The only thing she needs to do is appear reasonably relative to Horace in age.

On the other hand, Rose's children go from grade school to 20ish throughout the play. So Rose has a pretty specific age range she needs to be able to portray without looking ridiculous.

Ah, probably. My answer remains pretty much the same. There is no reason Norma needs to be any particular age, other than to be old enough to be a has been. Rose, not so much.

Just a PR stunt to drum up ticket sales for the 2 upcoming shows. Yes, she is not selling because over 3/4 of the tickets are $400-800 for the same show. unimaginable 6 years ago. All the 100-300 tickets are sold out.. But, she is on GOLDSTAR. No discount. super on the side, you'll see the teleprompters and see her "ACT" the show..

The NETFLICK special of this tour is coming in December... Don't close the book on GYPSY (via NETFLICK) yet... I know, I know..

"There is no reason Norma needs to be any particular age, other than to be old enough to be a has been."

That's not quite true, as the story occupies a pretty definite and specific time frame. It's only about 25 years after the height of Norma's youthful fame. However, many audience member, in the presence of a star diva, don't think much about details.
