Happy pre-weekend day, all!
I'm planning a joint recital, and I'm in need of some help. I happen to have a freakishly high lyric soprano voice. For example: I have no problem with most of the female songs in Light in the Piazza, but Popular from Wicked is way too low for me. This in itself would not be a problem, but the guy I'm doing the recital with is a baritone. We're both musical theater lovers, but I can't think of any duets that would fit both our voice parts. Does anyone out there know anything (preferably fairly contemporary)?

Thanks for the suggestions!
Argh! I wish I could sing Dangerous Game. Why do I have to be a freak soprano?
I like everything suggested so far, but does anyone know of anything a little less mainstream? I've taken it upon myself to educate my audiences by exposing them to songs from musicals that they have almost certainly never heard. (I introduced my vocal performance class to "Lonely House" from Street Scene this week.)

I can't believe I forgot about "How Could I Ever Know?"! I'll have to see if he can sing it.
I thought about Jane Eyre, but she's way out of my range, and Blanche has no duets with Mr. Rochester.
Chrys: Isn't it a great song? Emily Skinner's got a great recording of it on her CD if you're looking. In fact, the whole CD is great. I think Dawn Upshaw recorded it as well, but I'm not sure on which CD.

Yes, it is a beautiful song. The rich chords and the words along with the beautiful crescendo's and decrescendo's when done right... So moving!
I had no idea Emily Skinner made a cover of that song. I LOVE her work and I'm definately gonna look into that. I've never heard a lady sing that song. I bet it's uhmahzing.

The problem is most "current" stuff is written for high tenors and sopranos (who belt). If he really is a baritone, I would dig back a bit into the old stuff.
Try "My Heart Is So Full of You" from The Most Happy Fella... or "Almost Like Being In Love" from Brigadoon.

Oh, Nom! My evening just got a little brighter knowing that you're out there.
I think "People Will Say We're In Love" might be the only song out there that actually fits both of our ranges. Thanks!
Of course, after seeing The Musical of Musicals, I don't know if I could sing it with a straight face, but I shall certainly try.

I'm not at all familiar with The Fantasticks! I'll have to check it out.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'm off to bed. Au revoir.
