This article by Michael Paulson came out today. It's a really beautiful read and I have to admit to choking up a little at the end. God, I can't stop thinking about this show!

Agreed. And there was a wonderful cartoon she did about the musical FUN HOME in this week's NY Magazine.

Thanks for sharing! Great article and well deserved attention for Ms. Bechdel and the show.
Like Whizzer, really can't stop thinking about this show. Especially the final sequences from "You Ready to Go for That Drive?" to the end. The last time I had so many feels after watching something was the film Short Term 12.

100% read the graphic novel.
MorningGlow, I freaking LOVED Short Term 12. Brie Larson gave the performance of the year in that film and yes, it was quite the weeper.

The graphic novel is brilliant and should be essential reading for anyone.

Read it! (However, I couldn't get into the novel about her mum nearly as much. Should take another stab at it.)
Thanks for posting the article. [reaching for a tissue]

Was bored with the second novel, I think we learn that her mother was unable to connect with the kids and she forgives her. Not too far from her feelings of her father. She seemed to need to go a bit deeper into psycho-analytical stuff regarding her mom. In both cases I'm glad she came to forgive.

Great! Thanks all so much. I am very much looking forward to picking it up.
I was browsing my local book store and saw that there was a second novel about her mom and I had no idea. I almost bought it but figured I'd come here first for opinions on both.
Thanks!

I agree with South Florida, I didn't really like the second book either. But I absolutely loved Fun Home (the graphic memoir) and can't wait to see the show next month.

What a terrific article--thanks for posting the link!
I really enjoyed Are You My Mother? (the followup graphic memoir,) but I get why it's so much less compelling for everyone (I remember the reviews basically said the same thing.)
One reason is it deals far far less with Alison growing up, coming out, etc--all of that kind of stuff tends to be more compelling anyway. And there is a lot of therapy stuff and stuff about her own neurotic habits as an adult which, again, people might be less sympathetic to.
