Does anyone know if Beauty and the Beast has an actual overture that is not the prologue? If So what does it sound like, and is there anywhere that i can hear it on the net or by pm please? thanx
When my theatre company did the show, we had an overature that started right after the prologue and flowed into the beginning notes of "Belle." It was a standard overature, nothing surprising or special. From what i remember- it was very powerful at the beginning, and that's all i really remember about it.
i just worked backstage on Beauty...ummm....i think there is a short overture before the prologue...it's one of my least favorites...that's all i really remember about it.
Beauty and Aida have "mini" overtures before you get to what you hear on the CD, and they both suck. From what I remember, I couldnt even tell what song in B&tb they were using in the overture. For a moment i thought it was just the orchestra warming up

Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia
Hairspray also has a little musical opening before the CD starts.

B&B's overture is a short combo of the Transformation high point (after he completely human) and the title song. So yeah, they have one, just not on the CD. It's in the hidden songs vault along with "Change in Me."

Lion Kind doesnt have one, It's left up to whoever is playing Rafiki to hit the opening note perfectly with no accompaniment, otherwise the whole opening song is out off.

You can hear Ashley Brown sing it on the "On the Record" cast recording. They also gave away an "Ashley Brown Sampler" CD at the theater when she was in it. If you bought a souvenir program, you got it for free. It had her singing A Change in Me, Reflection, and Part of Your World.
A first time poster use the forbidden search? BRAVO!
He's a faker, and you've been taken in by his con. And in doing so, you are enabling him. He is doing more damage to aspergers than papa's words ever could. -Chane/Liverpool on me having asperger syndrome.
The Beauty and the Beast and Aida overtures are actually two of my very favorite overtures and it sucks that they chose not to record them. Especially since both had enough available space left on the disc to do so.
