Posted: 7/22/11 at 11:18pmI know the last thing we need is another awful musical, but I would just love to see this on stage...LOL of course with the way they do things now they would put Angela Landsbury in the show as Ms. Price which would be absolutely abhorrent.

Posted: 7/22/11 at 11:25pmUgh, I really would love to see this on stage. My dream cast would be Victoria Clark as Miss Price and Boyd Gaines as Professor Brown. And I'm pretty sure I'd be there every night.

Posted: 7/22/11 at 11:32pmNow see givesmeavoice, now you're putting a realistic and positive spin on it. I guess with the right casting it could be okay. But I'm sure they'd give the role to someone like Rebecca Luker whose voice is pretty, but she kind of isn't.

Posted: 7/22/11 at 11:38pmI know, the guy was also an asshole about Ben Vereen in another thread. If I didn't think he was better spoken than most of them, I'd say he was someone's (crusty) sock-puppet.

I think they meant to say that Rebecca Luker is beautiful and her voice is flawless.

Posted: 7/22/11 at 11:53pmI'm more than entitled to my opinion and you all can cast stones when you can honestly say you've never been an asshole on this board because we all have. I am not required to like Ben Vereen, or like Rebecca Luker. I enjoy her voice, but no, I don't think she's very pretty. And those I know who have worked with her, have plenty of worse things to say about her.

Posted: 7/24/11 at 7:01pmI agree that I would LOVE to see Bedknobs on stage. But casting would be an issue. I can't really think of a single famous Broadway diva I could see as Price besides Lansbury.

Huh?
How can a musical that isn't even written (and may never be) labeled as "awful?" Or do you hate musicals in general?

Or Who Framed Roger Rabbit...
Seriously, as it stands, the movie is neither beloved enough for Disney to want to milk it, or clear enough as a stage show. Sure, they could go back and use elements from the two novels, and don't get me wrong, I love the movie but... In the firtst place Disney only bought the property when they were worried they couldn't get the rights to Poppins. The highlights of the film are nearly all things that would no5t work well on stage...
(And Rebecca's not pretty?? WTF)

Bedknobs and Broomsticks relies heavily on its (Oscar-winning) special effects. It's all about a witch who does magic (changing people into rabbits, swimming under water in a ballroom, playing soccer with animals, fighting Nazis with an army of empty armor). It would cost a fortune to produce on stage.
Plus I'm tired of seeing these "ice show" adaptations of movies on Broadway. Coming up next: Aladdin!

If Lansbury were young enough to do it I'd LOVE to see it on stage. And who says the highlights of the movie couldn't be done on stage? Sure, some adjustments would have to be made to the story for it to work but the same could be said about ANY Disney show, and if there's anyone who can do special effects, it's Disney.
Who to cast as Miss Price though? hmmmm.... oddly enough it's probably an even more difficult role to recreate than Mary Poppins. Victoria Clark does seem quite well suited, but it's not perfect casting IMO, though I'd be thrilled to see her do it.

Posted: 7/24/11 at 8:26pmI'm firmly with Bars. The film is so episodeic anyway (more so than Poppins), that I don't think it would translate well. While a better film than Chitty Chitty, if that show flopped, why would anyone invest in this?

:: putting on that asbestos suit ::
Ms. Luker is pretty enough, but I dont think I would consider her ravishingly beautiful. But then bear in mind that I think Rhianna's jawline is so hard and angular you could cut week old bread with it.
And I definitely agree with the "ice show" treatment of films onstage -- I mean, my god, look what they did to LITTLE MERMAID: they managed to take a lovely little film and turn it onto an all-plastic mess.
But *if* one were inclined to put this onstage, might I earnestly suggest Susan Boyle? People would pay serious bucks to see her live, and lord knows she has the voice.

I think Bedknobs would make a very fun stage show...but I agree with Capnhook - Pete's Dragon should be first! The music in Pete's Dragon is fantastic...
Casting ideas would be fun to hear on this - - Especially for the Gogans! I could see Jackie Hoffman as Mrs. Gogan -
