Wanting to know people's predictions about Beetlejuice the musical. From the negative reviews it got in DC and how many seats are still left for the first few weeks of previews could this be another Charlie and the chocolate Factory? It has the set design and spectacle Charlie should have had but I still feel not so great about it's future.

Posted: 3/1/19 at 10:10pmAs I recall, Charlie sold well at first. If what you say is true, the same isn’t true of Beetlejuice.

Posted: 3/1/19 at 10:16pmI’m grateful for the $33 preview ticket they had, but I can’t imagine they would have needed to do that if they already had a healthy advance. From the performances I looked at online, there appear to be lots of empty seats. The reviews were not nice out of town...this will take very strong word of mouth to become a hit/run for any amount of time.

the Charlie sets (specifically the candy factory) were the most disappointing sets I've ever seen in a show. Judging from the photos, thats not the case here. the set looks AMAZING

Labor Day.
Charlie is a more beloved property and it was already "Broadway-adjacent" because of the film songs. It also had the best advertising campaign I can remember in recent years. Tell people you're seeing a Charlie musical, they say "oooh wow that sounds great!" Say the same for Beetlejuice, they say "hmmm Beetlejuice is a musical?" Beetlejuice is more along the lines of Groundhog Day where people aren't sure if they want to spend $$$ on it.

I’m still looking at this for my birthday in July and haven’t pulled the trigger, although I did just finally buy my MOULIN ROUGE ticket for the end of August. There’s something about BEETLEJUICE that I just can’t put my finger on, despite the pictures of the incredible looking stage set. Maybe after member reviews and more pics start coming in I’ll make the plunge, but for right now there are a LOT of empty seats available for a weekend show that’s less than five months off.

I know a few people who saw this in DC and they raved about - they said it was super funny and that the music was awesome. I'm about to buy tickets but was surprised that the people I spoke to about the show had no idea it was about to start on Broadway - maybe a lack of marketing isn't helping either?

Seriously the sets were atrocious and so cheap. They ruined what was otherwise a decent show.

Did they Keep Day-O and Senora? Can't imagine Beetlejuice w/out those moments.

Both were in the show in DC, so I’m assuming they will be on Broadway too. Especially Day-O, since it’s used in the TV advertisements for the show.

If I’m perfectly honest, I love most of Burton’s earlier movies (Batman, Batman Returns, Ed Wood, Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhsnds...), but I think I’ve only seen Beetlejuice once. Perhaps that’s an error on my part. But if I revisit it it’ll be by streaming it somewhere, not via a comparatively expensive broadway ticket, especially after bad D.C. reviews and bad reports on here. Sometimes I’ll override the negative consensus of critics and BWW message board members and see a show anyway. I rarely regret it. But only if feel drawn to the material. Sadly, I don’t here. It would take reports and reviews that say that they’ve fixed what was broken in D.C. on the way to the Winter Garden to convince me otherwise. Right now, it feels like The Addams Family (another show I have never seen), Pt. 2.

I saw this in DC and have a ticket for the second NYC preview. I enjoyed it. There were flaws, but the audience was laughing hard at everything. I found it funny and more “adult” which was refreshing. I can’t wait to see what’s changed and the David Korins set is so good.
I know people complained Beetlejuice was in the opening number, but at the same time I could hear the complaints if we didn’t meet him until halfway thru act one people would’ve complain it took forever to get to him.
It’s not the movie word for word on stage, it tells a different story, but has all the moments people want from the movie.

$33?? Are those still available and if so is there a code?

Posted: 3/2/19 at 10:52pmThat was only available for a few hours on the first day the box office opened a few weeks ago. No code that I know of but the seat locations were not bad.

Posted: 3/2/19 at 10:59pmI’m actually excited for this. I love Timber’s direction. He has a great eye for design and production value. And I actually thought some of the songs in King Kong were fun pop tunes. And I’ve never seen the movie. But I’m excited for it.

Posted: 3/3/19 at 1:09amThe $33 tickets were actually available online as well. I believe it was only supposed to be the first 100 people in line at the box office to get access to them but they went online shortly after and there also was a line around the block from what I heard, so I think they definitely sold more than 100 pairs of tickets at the low ticket price.
