The article will be in Sunday's Arts and Leisure section. If you work in the industry you end up getting it on Thursdays. It should probably be up on the Times website on Saturday.
I think it would be awesome if they completely renovated the Belasco apartment and turn it into a lounge. In Chicago, you can add "Suite Service" to any ticket. This means people can come in 45 minutes before the show, have drinks and appetizers, and are personally escorted to their seats. The "suite" is also available during intermission.
"Chicago is it's own incredible theater town right there smack down in the middle of the heartland. What a great city! I can see why Oprah likes to live there!" - Dee Hoty :-D
Great idea but next to impossible. The apartment is shot through with huge heating/cooling ducts. It is several flights of stairs up, accessible only through the dressing room stairs or the box office ones, neither of which is practical. There is one tiny two person elevator, dating back to Belasco's time, but it has not been in use for many, many years, and in any case, exits directly into the east alley.
WOW! That theatre is definately the most beautiful ones I've ever seen. Ever since I saw it on the Shubert Organization website I've loved it. Thanks so much for all this cool info and pictures. I can Sweeney Todd playing there...?
I will take an old theater over a new one any time.
I knew if they ever renovated it that it would be fantastic. I am looking forward to seeing in when it reopens. I remember seeing Follies from the 2 nd balcony and it was fine.
Everything about Women on the Verge keeps getting better and better. A great cast and the chance to see a beautiful renovation of a beloved theatre. I can't wait!
"Somethin's comin', I don't know what it is but it is gonna be great!"
They can fix up the apartment for Patti so that when the show starts she would feel like she really owns the theatre and wouldn't have that far to go when she storms out
