Posted: 6/15/12 at 1:42pmHi guys. I was wondering what shows you may have seen at the Belk Theater at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte, NC. Also, what have you seen at Ovens Auditoriums, also part of Blumentahl. I have seen PETER PAN, SHREK, BRING IT ON, and THE LION KING at Belk, and THE ADDAMS FAMILY and WICKED at Ovens. What about you? Thanks!

Wow, did not know there were other Charlotte NC people on this board. I have seen "Rent", Avenue Q", "Spring Awakening" and "West Side Story". Has anybody ever bought a season subscription to the Broadway Lights Series? My oldest daughter was also a usher one year at the Bluementhal.

Oh, I'd love to see Adam in concert! I caught him in the farewell tour of Rent but he didn't come out the stage door that day.
I fare better student rushing shows than buying a season ticket. Many of the shows I have no interest in seeing anyway (Sister Act is an example from this season, although there are usually more; I'm very pleased with the upcoming lineup).

Ooh, other Charlotte people! I actually live in Augusta but go there as often as I can to catch a show. I've seen:
Belk: Spring Awakening, In the Heights, Mary Poppins, and Dreamgirls
Ovens: Rent, 9 to 5, The Addams Family, and Memphis
Knight: Next to Normal
McGlohon: Idina Menzel "I Stand" tour
I've also fared really well with student rush tickets. I've rushed every show I've seen in Charlotte, and got seats within the first 5 rows for $25 or less every time. I can see 4 shows in Charlotte for what it costs to see one in Atlanta (plus the Fox is huge, IMO).

yankee - That sounds amazing. I know he and Anthony did a tour together recently, was hoping they'd come around here. If either of them ever come back I'll be there. When Idina came through she made jokes about her dad not believing they listened to her music in the South. The audience had a good laugh about that.
angelique - The student rush system seems to be very inconsistent. I've had people sell me three for one ID before (even though you're only supposed to be able to buy two), only sell balcony seats, give me the best orchestra seating available, etc. It's a wonderful service, I just wish there was a little more clarity when it came to technicalities. I'm waiting for them to announce rush for the upcoming engagement of Beauty and the Beast, hopefully things work out. I must say I agree with you on the Fox. Beautiful as it is, I felt like I was in a cavern. Balcony seating didn't help with that experience, either. Blumenthal's a really great venue and I'm thankful we have it here in Charlotte.
Looking forward to War Horse and American Idiot next season. I won't mind putting in additional viewings of Wicked (the 2NT is a very strong company) and The Lion King either, nor possibly checking out Jekyll & Hyde. I hate that they're saving Mormon for 13/14, but all you can do is wait, I guess.
Was anyone else at the Tony party this year? It was a pretty good time.

Posted: 6/17/12 at 8:02amActingDude172 - I definitely want to see "War Horse" and would be interested in "Jekyll & Hyde" to see if it is different from the one I saw on Broadway in 1997. Entire family saw "American Idiot" on Broadway and the music is great (especially "21 Guns") but I personally thought the story was kind of thin.

I bought the Broadway Lights Series this year, but did not attend all shows. I gave some of the tickets to my friends who wanted to see the shows, but could not get tickets. I am seeing BEAUTY AND THE BEAST on the 26th of this month as part of the Broadway Lights. I plan to purchase Broadway Lights again for next season.

I disagree with your opinion on SISTER ACT, I am very much looking forward to that one. I do agree, however, with your opinion on the lineup, I think it will be very interesting. Especially THE LION KING and WICKED, as you can tell by my username.

Posted: 6/17/12 at 12:00pmSisterLionWickedQ - do you get any type of discount on seat price for shows when you buy the Broadway Lights Series? I assume you get the same seat for every show depending on the theatre, is that correct. Any other benefits for buying the year subscrption?
