Eight plays and only two musicals (and one of them is a revival).

And Isherwood's picks...even fewer musicals (I don't think any of them are musicals, actually...)

HA!
BENGAL TIGER on Isherwood's list? Lord...
OTHER DESERT CITIES is quite overrated in my opinion as well. I'd put SISTER ACT on my list, to be quite honest. And possible ANYTHING GOES as well.
Very glad Isherwood said Sons of the Prophet, but confused as to the absence of The Normal Heart on his list. They were both some of the best things I've ever seen.
Brantley is spot on. It's too bad the great plays don't survive while certain crap musicals flourish. It just shows how dumb broadway audiences have become

Not just how dumb Broadway audiences have become, but how dumb American theater goers have become as a whole!
I expected Starcatcher to be on Brantley's list. That praise-filled review was one of his best written in the last year.
Whileit's absolutely gotten worse, there's been a long history of many of the greatest Broadway plays not running past a year...
At least FOLLIES was on his list
