Well, every once in a while someone says something here that just makes your jaw drop but this one might take the cake, unless you meant Tony time 2018 or 2019. What universe are you living in?  DEH is a mega hit, selling out high average ticket prices.  It's gonna be around for quite a while.

And I'll give odds to anyone who wants to bet against Platt winning the Tony. As one critic wrote, seeing Platt in this show is like having seen Merman in Gypsy.

I literally just laughed for 5 minutes over this comment.

 

I'm sure that Andy Karl is great, but so was Jessie Mueller in Waitress and Laura Benanti in She Loves Me and Carmen Cusack in Bright Star and Phillipa Soo in Hamilton and Cynthia Erivo in The Color Purple.  That's why they were nominated.  Just to be nominated is a great honor.  One person will win and it will probably be Ben Platt, but that doesn't mean that Andy Karl or anyone else who will be nominated along with him is crap.  It means that they went above and beyond in their art form and they were acknowledged for it.  Ben Platt is giving an absolutely brilliant performance and he really does deserve to get recognized that his work is truly exemplary.  Anyone who claims that Ben is undeserving of that award probably hasn't even seen his performance.

Wouldn't Jon Jon Briones be nominated for Best Featured Actor?  Is that a leading role?

Jonathan Pryce won the Tony for Leading Actor.

Not to mention that Jon Jon Briones did receive an Olivier nomination as a Lead Actor for the West End production.
