"Tony Award winners Laura Benanti and Michael Cerveris will star in the Broadway premiere of Sarah Ruhl's In the Next Room (or the vibrator play), which begins previews at the Lyceum Theatre Oct. 22.
The New York Times reports that Benanti (Gypsy, Why Torture Is Wrong) and Cerveris (Road Show, Hedda Gabler) will be part of a cast that also features Obie and Clarence Derwent Award winner Quincy Tyler Bernstine (Ruined), Ruhl veteran Maria Dizzia (Berkley Rep world premiere of In the Next Room, Eurydice), Thomas Jay Ryan (The Tempermentals, Passsion Play), Wendy Rich Stetson and Chandler Williams (Mary Stuart, Crimes of the Heart).
Les Waters, who staged the world premiere of In the Next Room at Berkeley Rep, will direct the Lincoln Center Theater production, which will officially open on Broadway Nov. 19..."

I got my hopes up when I saw "Benanti and Cerveris" and thought it was for A Little Night Music. Ah, well...
Playbill's updated the story to include the full cast.
What a terrific company!
I really could care less about Benanti, but Michael Cerveris in a Sarah Ruhl play, perfect perfect perfect. Also really glad to see Maria Dizzia staying with this. She's great.
I'm surprised that Benanti is playing Catherine.
While I heard good things about Maria Dizzia's performance in the Berkley Rep production, Benanti seems much more of a better fit for Sabrina.
Add me to the list of those adding this to the list...
That'll be awesome. It'll be nice to see them both in this. Although part of me will be secretly wishing they were both singing.. haha.

Lovely cast in a lovely play.
I know Ruhl is beloved by a lot of people, but I really couldn't stand the way DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE unraveled in the second act, and the first act wasn't as interesting as it could have been, there were some great theatrical moments though, but most of them had more to do with the cast than with the play.
Still, I think Benanti has become one of the most exciting performers in NY right now, and she's making all kinds of surprising, interesting choices at this point in her career which I love, so I'll probably go visit this play because of her. Not big on Cerveris, but the rest of the cast sounds great.
If that's the only one of her plays that you're familiar with, then yeah, I can see not really getting the love, heh. You should read eurydice. I don't think it's completely done justice on the page, but it's beautiful.
LuvtheEmcee, I've heard that before, there was a recent regional production of Eurydice in my town that my roommate saw and said it was awful, but he also said that he hated HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE (which is a fantastic play, IMO) and I think he has been to the theatre maybe three times in his life, so I'm not sure how much to believe him. Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll definitely check it out before heading to the Lyceum

Ruhl is Vogel's protege.
Ha, yeah, maybe not so much on the trustworthy. The Second Stage production was magnificent.
Im so happy for both but am now so upset Benanti cannot be a part of A Little Night Music.
I had read that before, Yankee, which is why I should be more open to Ruhl's other work. I have heard that DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE is not her best after all. Not even Mary-Louise Parker was enough to make it fully enjoyable.

Yay! I was wondering what was up next for Michael Cerveris.

DMCP was my favorite of the Ruhl plays that have been produced in New York.
when do you guys think tix will go on sale? very happy about this casting.
Michael Cerveris has worked every Broadway season since the 03-04 season. wow!
Can't wait!
Will this be open-ended? It doesn't give a closing date or hint at a limited engagement, so yes...?
