It was originally a full orchestra. The orchestration is very generic and unmemorable.
When you hear the two piano arrangement, you say to yourself - "Oh yeah - I forgot- this was writtne by the guys who wrote The Fantasticks!"
Rose may have actually been her downfall, vocally.
Sadly, I must agree. She hasn't sounded quite the same since.

Actually Song & Dance was her downfall and she's been limping along ever since. She's always been able to do the one-off concert, but 8 shows a week for 6 months or more kills her voice.
What is the 'Liza lisp' ? Lol

Thish ish the Liza Lishp:
SHTART SHREADIN' THE NEWSH...
Oh right. I don't remember Bernadette doing that, lol...maybe it's not developed enough.

Bernadette didn't just develop that lisp. She's always had that "baby talk" lisp. Maybe it has become more obvious as she gets older, but it's always been there.
Here's the TONY performance of The Goodbye Girl. They both had so much charm, but the show just isn't good. It was like The Addams Family of it's time. Instead of Nathan and Bebe being great in an awful show, it was Marty and Bernadette. lol But I love it, anyway. :)

I do love that clip! It's too bad the show didn't do well. I really enjoy the cast recording; the music is beautiful.
(Agreed about THE ADDAMS FAMILY. I did not like that show.)
Maybe it's just a co-incidence but Bernadette Peters recently presented an award to Craig Zadan, one of the producers of PROMISES, HOW TO SUCCEED and (what would be if it happens) I DO, I DO.

Please, Don't! Please, Don't!
And they are also producers of Smash.
I'm excited! Mostly just to see Marty back on Broadway. I think what's taking so long is getting him - He's super busy with voice-over, touring, television and family. Hopefully something will be announced soon, though. :)

I was at a cocktail party recently and Carol Lawrence was also a guest. You may know that she replaced Mary Martin in the original Broadway version of I DO! I DO! We had a nice conversation and when I mentioned the talked-about revival of the show, she was enthusiastic about Bernadette Peters but had reservations about Martin Short. It seems that she'd seen him in the LA version of THE PRODUCERS and was less-than-impressed. She said that she'd worked with several Michaels who would break character in that role and she was sure Short would do the same thing.

I tend to agree with Miss Lawrence, Dolly. I can see Peters as She, but Short as He baffles me. Don't get me wrong: I love Short in the right role, but that doesn't seem to be it.
I still think both of them are too old, and that the show is really too small for most Broadway houses.

The original production played at the 46th Street Theater (now called the Richard Rodgers) and became more intimate by putting the orchestra onstage and pushing the set virtually into the laps of the audience. It worked mighty well.
I saw them in The Goodbye Girl, and was a little disappointed. Short was breaking character and Peters couldn't keep a straight face. But that was years ago, and Short has proven himself as an actor since then. So, I'd definitely go see them in this. I've had a sort of love/hate thing with Peters over the years, but I think she's well suited for this.
Well I guess this project died...

If this happens this next spring, I'm in for one amzing trip to NYC.
If Peters were actually pregnant at age 67 that baby would come out looking like a potato!!
