Peters was indeed wonderful, and her Clowns was beautiful and heartbreaking. I just wish the rest of the production had been up to her level- largely cold, short on glamour, and surprisingly miscast in many of the featured roles.

I think A Little Night Music soars and is at its funnies and quickest when it's visually absolutely enchanting.
This should always be staged like we're doing a buoyant Shakespeare comedy.
The choice to make the colors be so dark and muted and wooden was nearly disastrous.

It's begging for a revival in Central Park.

I think it’s the single greatest performance of a song I’ve ever seen on stage (and I also just saw Judi Dench do it a couple months ago in London!). Feels like one of those special “you had to be there” moments, especially that no recording was made."
I remember going to dinner with my friend after the Sunday matinee and I questioned if something was going on personally in Peters life that she sang this so naturally. She wasn’t in character, it seemed as though she was reflecting on her own life - which made for a startling performance. My friend couldn’t stop crying when she sang this. Kept going into her handbag for more tissues. 😄
