Bernarda Alba - Still Missed - but now with CD!

So begins the last week of a great show that got completely lost this season!

Anyone going for its last weekend?

CR in May-ish.

I need another LaChiusa show soon, before I go into withdrawal.

re: Bernarda Alba - Going but NOT forgotten

I saw it a few weeks ago. It was a pretty great show. I'll be sad to see it go.

Saw this a while ago. Thought it was good, not the best show I've seen and not the best for of Lachiusa's but it certainly wasn't a bad show. It had it's standout performances and moments. I'm sad to see it go but I can't wait for a cast recording.

I saw it a couple nights ago and LOVED it! I'm glad it got recorded because it definitely deserves too. The cast is amazing.

It's being produced at LCT, so it's hard to consider it a success or a failure.

I'm pretty sure it grossed well, but that's about all you can tell from not-for-profit productions.

re: Bernarda Alba - Going but NOT forgotten

Shows produced by non-for-profit theatre companies aren't considered "hits" or "flops" commercially because grosses are not an issue.

Whether the shows are artistic hits or flops is a whole other story...

I wish I could have seen it (distance is a problem) because I read it in my intro to drama class and I thought it was really good. Very sad.

The second time I saw the show I was amazed at how much MORE I love every aspect of it.

And the cast seemed to have gotten a lot stronger.
And the audience was really into it.

She's been on before.

I'd hate to miss Candy - who has toned down (just a bit) her gossip-ness.

They all seemed sick when I went - but still gave great performances.

This time last Saturday I was getting ready to go down to Lincoln Center to get a rush ticket for this show!

I saw it last Sunday and LOVED it! It was so artistic and beautiful, I can't wait for the CD!

Does anyone know the exact day that the cast recording comes out?

I've checked a few places and can't find an exact answer. I thought it was May 21st.

You can't find it because there isn't one yet.

I'm excited for it, as well. I think this is the kind of thing that will grow on you with more listening.

re: Bernarda Alba - Going but NOT forgotten

"The understudy for Poncia was on tonight, but she was actually quite good."

And apparently Michael John thought saw too. Read this in today's Daily News gossip column:
The cast of the new musical "Bernarda Alba" is said to have the jitters after getting a disquieting E-mail from the show's composer, Michael John LaChiusa.

The Broadway favorite caught a recent performance with an understudy in the role normally played by actress Candy Buckley.

"The next day, he sent an E-mail to the entire company telling them how good, in so many words, the show was without Buckley in it," says a backstage blabbermouth. "The company is a little on edge, and Buckley, understandably, is p—ed."

Well you would be, wouldn't you? "Bernarda Alba," starring Phylicia Rashad and Daphne Rubin-Vega, is playing at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theatre at Lincoln Center.

A rep for the show did not return calls.

That doesn't sound like something he'd do.

But I dunno.

ONE MORE DAY!

Well, at least Bernarda is part of the gossip column!

I know, I was referring to the release date. Do you know it?

Wow. That's interesting.

I saw Candy's understudy as well, and thought she did a fine job.
