Who do you think should win in this category?
I dont think anyone would say the IN THE HEIGHTS should win book. It is the one truly awful thing about the show.
PASSING STRANGE has a book that is wierd and although it gets the job done is hardly award worthy
and I already know what people on this board think of the CRY-BABY book so I dont even need to ask
So I guess XANADU? Should they win Best Book? I would say they probally will. What are your thoughts?

Xanadu should win!
witty cleaver book which recreated an awful movie into a great stage musical.

Neither Passing Strange nor In The Heights are anything special. And Cry-Baby is a disaster.
Xanadu all the way.

It's either going to Xanadu or In The Heights, in my opinion.
If there's an ITH sweep, it'll take book but if they want to award the rightful winner, Xanadu should win.

People said the same thing about SPRING AWAKENING last year and expected Best Book to go to GREY GARDENS or CURTAINS, but SA picked up the award in its sweep.

Posted: 5/15/08 at 7:10pmEven though I do think it is not strong, if it;s like Spring Awakening and take awards that don't really deserve it and this is coming from a HUGE In The Heights fan. But I think Xanadu might not take many other awards so it might take it.

True....but Spring Awakening also got rave reviews and critical praise that ITH did not come close to. But I do see your point.
When a show is THE hot show and sweeps the awards it often helps them pick up categories they dont deserve. A sweep this year will be hard for ITH though because I think the 3 super revivals will end up laying claim to the design, director, and featured actor/actress awards.

- Completely agree. This is why I don't expect ITH to sweep. Though they will most likely win Best Musical.

I see HEIGHTS winning Score, Musical, Choreography, and Orchestrations.
XANADU should win Book.

Posted: 5/15/08 at 7:21pmI hope it is Xanadu. In the Heights is an awesome show but it would be crazy for it too win. Xanadu would have flopped if it did not have such a clever book (just like Drowsy). In the Heights will win at least 3 tony awards and will do well but just like last year with Spring Awakening just because a show garners raves it does not deserve to win awards it doesn't deserve.

It seemed like a no brainer to me that Wopat would get it over Jackson.

I didn't think Wopat wouldn't get nominated.
I thought Jackson would get nominated over Stew.

Which critics said Passing Strange had a weak book?

Posted: 5/16/08 at 9:00amWell it shouldn't go to INTH, sweep or not. The book is just plain awful. Any other show than that deserves it. I really don't see a sweep happening this year.

IN THE HEIGHTS should not the win Best Book. The book is its weakest part. I saw the off-broadway run, I knew that they made revisions..I love the score, the energy.
but i just dont think -it will win book.
XANADU will win the book.
IF I have my way... PASSING STRANGE should win New Musical, Book, Score~bec. I think its a great show!

Posted: 5/16/08 at 2:44pmI didn't care for Passing Strange nor In The Heights, which I saw when it was off-Broadway. I've not seen the lastest production. I didn't see Cry-Baby and can't foresee that changing even with its Tony nod. So Xanadu is really all that's left on my personal list. What the Tony voters will do, well, it's merely guesswork.
