While serous, thought-provoking shows are great, everyone needs a night off now and then to see some cheesy (in a good way!), silly, lighthearted musicals. Lots of them borrow their scores from the Porter and Gershwin discographies. I usually don't love jukebox musicals; however the former two's songs are undeniably fun. My personal favorites are Anything Goes, Crazy For You, Nice Work, Roman Holiday, and Kiss Me Kate.
OP, awww...I just wish you didn’t use the word “cheesy”...

I saw An American in Paris in Costa Mesa last April. It was beautiful. Was Nice Work all that good because Musical Theatre West in Long Beach is doing a production this Spring
Are you talking about newer musicals that incorporate their songs (Crazy For You, Nice Work, High Society, American in Paris) or musicals that they actually wrote (Porgy and Bess, Kiss Me Kate, Anything Goes, DuBarry Was A Lady)?

Both, my favorites are a mixture of both categories

I'm just curious to know if anyone who recommend Nice Work if You Can Get it
CP: Anything Goes, Kiss Me, Kate
G: Oh, Kay, Pardon My English, Girl Crazy, and one not silly one, Porgy & Bess
I coproduced Nice Work and obviously loved it. I know there's chatter pro/con about certain cast members but overall it was a really fun, joyous production with gorgeous costumes by the late Martin Pakledinaz. Joe DiPietro's book was hilarious and perfectly tailored for the Broadway cast, and other productions t The Gateway and Ogunquit were both rousing successes. aMusically I think it's amazing and the way David Chase and Bill Elliot molded and merged Gershwin songs and motifs is fantastic. The duet "Like Strauss" they crafted for Michael McGrath and Judy Kaye clinched the Tony for both of them that year. The orchestra on the album (conducted by Tom Murray) sounds spectacular and I highly recommend the OBCR. Kelli is glorious, and Jessie was too when she replaced Kelli in the run.
Give the album a listen and judge for yourself.

I wish I could have seen NICE WORK with a leading man who didn’t have the charisma of a corpse.

I've heard bits and pieces already and it sounds like a fun musical. And if you want info on the production Musical Theatre West is putting on in April, go to musical.org. Maybe I'll like it as much as I did with AAIP
